Currently on holiday in Longtown nr Gretna but went for a drive yesterday to the Galloway Forest. Went down The Queen's Way (A712) and the Raiders Road Forest Drive ... what lovely roads and area. The Otter Pool is a must.
Hope you can wild camp there as I'm back!

You're what in....Longtown...!?!?!? There are some great roads but most of them are just over the border. Ride the 11 miles North to Langholm and then find the B7068 to Lockerbie which Google Maps in its infinite stupidity calls Caroline St and which it most certainly isn't. That road is a hoot. Alternatively, take the A7 North out of Langholm for about 1/2 mile and then take the hill road on the right, opposite the café just before you get to the rugby ground. That'll take you on a fine single track road over Whita Hill, past the sculpture dedicated to Hugh McDiarmid and on to Newcastleton or "Copshaw Holm" as it's known, locally. Or.......B709 out of Langholm to Eskdalemuir and visit the Buddhist Monastery at Samye Ling. Lots of stuff to do but Longtown is really a gfs one-horse town and I say this as someone whose ancestors were largely responsible for building the place.
