Became bored of the other thread about the Intaride Evo2, which has turned into a personal customer spat about Autocom, handbags at dawn.

So, anyone out there with the first batch of Evo2s care to comment on their findings? Worth the upgrade from Evo1? Louder? Ned, are you there?!

Let's see how long this will stay on topic.

Your starter for ten....

Right a distinct lack of handbags in this post sorry,
Yep a noticeable increase in volume over the Evo1, but like I said on the other thread volume wasn't really an issue and wasn't why I upgraded. The main reason I upgraded was the ability to adjust the rider/pillion ratio as my helmet being a schuberth is pretty good at blocking out windnoise , my son on the other hand gets false vox triggering.
The program is really good and means the Evo2 has to be one of the most user adjustable system on the market, I did have a play before returning it for the bluetooth upgrade and stuff like adjusting the amount of music fade on speech and the amount of time the mic stays live after you finish speaking are really useful allowing you to set up the system so it's just right.
I set mine up slightly differently as I have the Zumo 660.
Because the intercom priority is Phone-satnav-speech-music the Zumo plays satnav/music and phone all through 1 output, so if you have the Zumo playing MP3's the intercom puts this over speech meaning you can't speak to your pillion. So rather than put the Zumo into the GPS socket I put it into the music socket, so I can play music and it fades out when I speak, the GPS also fades but this is easy enough to repeat with a quick touch of the screen. Plus my pillion (my son)knows if I do get a call (my wife) not to speak unless he wants to join in the phone conversation (invariable 'what time will you be home and what do you want for tea').
On the Evo1 I had the bluetooth but didn't really use it to connect to the Zumo until the recent Zumo software upgrade, this allows me to connect the Zumo to the Evo via bluetooth but send the audio out from the Zumo via the cable. The main reason for this is it allows better volume adjustment between music/navigation and the proximity alerts are alot quiter (using bluetooth audio out they were literally deafening).
I'm looking forward to getting the Evo2 back(and praying the bluetooth connects ok to the Zumo as the Zumo bluetooth is very picky who it speaks to :() but the main underlying reason behind me being such a fan of the Evo is the customer service, not once have I not had an email returned, not once have they not returned a phonecall no matter how bone an enquiry it was and not once have they made me feel anything but 100% welcome when I've visited plus they make you feel like your there only customer, a rare thing indeed. :thumb2

Thanks for the lack of handbags, Ned.

This sounds encouraging. I too have the Zumo 550 / Evo1 with bluetooth combination, Zumo through the Evo's Music Input, and paired as yours. It all worked well apart from the occasional disconnects from the Zumo's rather flaky BT protocol.

Whilst I take your point about volume not being an issue for you, it seems the tweaks available for the Evo2 are good news, so maybe it's time, when Intaride get more stock, to take the upgrade plunge.

I too concur with you about their customer service and willingness.

Do report back when you get your BT chip installed with any further findings.

Golly, this could turn out to be a civilised thread. One lump or two with your tea, sir? Thanks, Ned.

I wouldn't hold your breath about the civilised thread bit:augie,
I'll be sure to let you know when I get the Evo2 back, they we're waiting on a bluetooth chip order but since I still have the Evo1 I'm not in a mad panic to get it back. At a rough guess I'd say volume was about 25-30% louder but that is based on the position of the volume dial, I would imagine it will easily cope with a noisy helmet + earplugs. I can tell you that the Zumo 660 and Evo1 (with the bluetek bluetooth chip) has never dropped it's connection yet. The only bletooth drama I had was phone to Zumo, apparently Garmin and Nokia don't talk to each other when designing bluetooth into their units so I have to use an old Nokia to get it all to work. But work it does :D

Thanks!!:comfort
I was looking for a thread that dealt with facts rather than sniping. I received the evo2 upgrade a week ago and I'm really pleased with it, it's much louder but the real plus is the programming software. I changed the way the unit deals with the music muting to suit myself as I rarely carry a pillion and I'm very much a happy bunny now

As regards customer service I can't praise them enough, I got a faulty usb lead that made it difficult to connect to the evo and sent an e-mail detailing the fault to intaride and the following morning they replied..........."Sounds like you've found the problem - many thanks for your efforts.
I'll get a replacement (pre-checked) USB lead off in the post to you
today."

Service like that can't be bought!!!

Did you go for the bluetooth option, if so how are you finding it, and what setup are you using?:)

Yup, got the Bluetooth on it. Full setup is Evo2, Zumo 550, Intaride a80 radio and an iPhone and everything paired up perfectly..... Except that when I changed the programming the Bluetooth window insisted on setting up as phone rather than headset.
I'm assuming that this is as a result of the faulty USB lead and expect to be able to resolve this as soon as the replacement lead arrives as the connection between the Zumo and the Evo is prone to dropping now. But it was working perfectly before so as soon as I can make the change I'm confident it'll be ok ( famous last words? ) I'll keep you posted.:D

Good stuff, I'll be running a Nokia N70(thanks to the Zumos bluetooth:(), Evo2 and the Intaride 803 radio, all worked ok so my only concern will be whether the Zumo and Evo pair ok :)

Evo2 is back, initial impressions are it works the same as the Evo1 (i.e it connects to the Zumo 660 no problem) but is much louder, I initially thought 25-30% but trying it again it's more like 50-60% louder, anything more than half way on the volume is deafening , I'll try and do a road test tomorrow and give a more detailed report.

Sorry for being a numpty but can someone answer the following?

How long does the battery last?

Can you play music from the Zumo through it and does it sound any good?

Is it easy to fit?

Cheers

The Evo2 is a bike powered intercom so no battery issues

once you've found a suitable power supply everything else just plugs in with 3.5mm standard plugs (same as a set of headphones)

I went for the bluetooth option so it will connect to your Zumo no problem, if you connect your phone to your Zumo via bluetooth it will also allow you to use your phone on the move (not eveyones cup of tea but still an option)

Yes it sounds good.

Thanks for your feedback Ned - volume issue is very encouraging. Looking forward to the remote control to be released...and then the in-built Liberty, fingers crossed. Do post back your findings on your road test.

New Evo2

Okay Latest and Greatest

If anyone read my posts about the Evo2 in the *other* (closed) thread then youll know that i had some issues with my Evo2's Heres what has transpired since then:

I received my Evo's I believe the first week in july, and they were more or less DOA they would not power up, the would however program and turn on with the USB cable, Since i received two EVO's and they both had the same issue i wasnt sure if it was of my own fault so i wrote Intaride, and i guess they lost my emails (server trouble or something, i wish they would just give an email address instead of a webform im sure thats probably 99% of the problem there soo if youre listening Intaride... id do away with the WebForm based email!)

Okay so i waited a few days and hadnt heard anything so i was searching for a forum that had info on intaride, and voila i find the UKgser website.. well hot d@mmm i finally found some folks that knew something!!! and a great lot of help yall have been! Shenzi contacted Intaride for me and let them know i was having Issues, it was one more email to them later they were able to put me with the web forumn issues and after explaining everything that was going on they were able to narrow it down to a software issue they thought they had nipped in the bud but i guess my units went out before they could catch them!

Long story short they are sending me new units headsets n all to make up for it! I can honestly say they have the best customer service than anyone else in their industry and from what i could tell of the units *when i jumpstarted them with USB* they absolutely rock!

Even despite the troubles i had i wouldnt hesitate to reccomend them to anyone.:thumb:thumb2

Connecting the EVO-2 on a R1150GS

Hey all! and Greetings from Athens Greece!

I just joined the forum and I am really glad that I realised there is a deticated thread for the EVO-2:clap

Even though I ordered mine beginning of July, I will pick it up in one hour!!!
In any case I know now what I will spend my time for the rest of the weekend!

Anyway, I do have a major concern about how to connect the device to my R1150GS. I do want to have it installed in a way that is only "key on" powered and not have it connected directly on to the battery.

I would highly appreciate if someone could enlight me and if possible with highest possible details (even photos could be of great help!). I do have experience handling electronics, but definetly I don't want to burn anything.

Of course in the next few days after installing the EVO-2 on my bike, I will share my impressions and thoguhts.

Thanks in advance!
George

Welcome aboard George :)

There's a green and blue striped wire in the fusebox of your bike that is switched live.....or a thicker green one that will carry more current .use the brown and white striped one in the same location for negative.

(obviously test them with a multimeter first but they should do the job:thumb)

System does not work! But eventually it will !!

Well, I was so excited that I would receive my system last Friday that I left the office an hour eralier in order to pick it up from FedEx local offices.

Unfortunately, when I started testing the system I became worried as neither I was getting any connection with the PC, nor I could get any sound out of the headsets when I connected it to the transformed power supply (I frst wanted to make sure it would work before installing it on the bike).

So, after spending 5 hours on Friday and 3 more hours today mornign trying lots short of different things, I still have no luck. I did e-mail David (Intaride's customer support person), who surprised me by replaying to my e-mail Friday night at 1:30 !!! So, I guess I still have some way to go since I fear that I will have to send it back fro inspection.

As for connecting it on my bike (when it'll be working) I realised and ordered a connection device I realised Intaride is offering. According to Intaride the device detects when the engine is running then only powers up the system (neat!).

hmmm

hmm i had similar problems and from what David told me was that a handful of them got away with bad software and upon realizing this they shipped out replacements that will be here tomorrow! customer service with them is definitely top notch.. granted it took a minute to figure out that we were having email issues but when the communication was finally established everything went smooth!!! (ironic huh... coms with a coms company... okay bad pun)

good luck
