hi all, has anyone ventured to the Shetland isles on their bike, was pondering somewhere a bit unusual to visit next year.
or can anyone suggest an alternative to the usual suspects of Europe etc.

cheers :beerjug:

Can a mod move this out of the technical section.

Thank you.

What the fuck has this got to do with 1200 GS motorbikes?

There is a perfectly good Travel and / or Jock section,

Done chaps. :thumb2

On a completely unrelated note, I noticed a couple of weeks ago Richard as I passed the place in your first link that it is twinned with Boring, Oregon.

Two minutes after I took that bike on the sand photo I was well and truly stuck and took over an hour to get myself out again.:blast

The weather on Shetland can be fantastic or awful and usually both and late season riding in 70mph winds is not to be recommended and even the ferry connections from Aberdeen can be disrupted at that time of year.

Shetland scenery is great and ranges from stunning cliffs and tomboli beaches to empty desolate hills and moorland but don't go looking for any forests as there aren't any!

I have been invited to join 3 others on a trip from North Devon to the Shetlands in June next summer. One guy plans to ride his 1941 Indian Scout, another a 1940s Matchless, another on a iron head Harley (which is a bit too modern imho) and I hope to ride a 1948 Nimbus. Should be a laugh if it happens. Should I take a tow rope in case we come across any broken down 1200GSs that need rescuing? :D

We have the Simmer Dim bikers Rally at Vidlin where I work on the 21st June,
You need to google it and get tickets as it's sold out early.
As FP says give me a shout and I will be happy to point you in the right direction. I also have a 911 if the need arises.:beerjug:

There is a perfectly good Travel and / or Jock section, ready and waiting to answer every and any question you might have about next year's adventure.

Unusual destinations instead of Europe, for the really hard of thinking?
