I bought this from Paul (Nice & Fat) with the view to having a play! It was a right snotter as described, but when it arrived and the engine wasn't seized, and a light came on.....

I oiled the bores, fixed the starter motor, repaired the wiring where necessary, fitted a new ignition switch, bought another set of carbs and built a good set, rebuilt the front brake caliper, general tidy up all over. It runs, quite nicely actually. Oil light goes out so it has oil pressure, has all 6 gears and a working clutch, and looks quite good now ive put some elbow into it, I even polished the bloody thing!

What to do next....Hmmm.....

Have you got decent silencers for it and do all the electrics work?

I would say that you're not far off riding it (T and T free ???)

Electric all work, but I don't have lights. I need a front master cylinder (£44) a chain (£20) to ride it. Exhaust, don't have one but have some ideas using straight pipes...

And yes you're right, free to ride (except insurance of course)...

Had one of those as a rat bike in my younger days, mat black of course but badged as a Volvo rather than Honda :D

The cam chain was so stretched it didn’t even touch the tensioner, which I think was seized anyway, but it still ran OK :nenau

Interestingly I did the same as yours and turned the handlebars around to make cow horn drops, guess I wasn’t as original as I thought

Latest update. I found a brake master cylinder on Wemoto for £36, replacement part but does the job, fitted it last night, bled the brakes and I now have a functioning front and rear brake!

Also found a rear mudguard second hand on marketplace for £12, fitted that as well, looking more complete now. I’ll search for a rear light unit at Autojumble, I reckon a few quid will get me one? Plus a headlamp and bezel, then I think with a chain on she will ride!

Im sure at that age of bike lots of Honda or even Kawasaki rear lights will fit. Suzuki tended to be rounder , but Honda and big K very similar.

Dont forget the photos of the 12 plate tasting menu kindly offered by Nice n Fat. Keep the soapy stuff private, we have standards to maintain on the site 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I’ve decided to ‘pass’ on the STW Steve, I’d rather ‘throw it over my thumb’ mate!!😂😂

The offer of a 7 course lunch and soapy tit wank from Miss Price was made due to the original statement of "I would have that running in a weekend"

Now I know Steve is a bit of an engine whisperer (he did get my old DBD34 Goldstar going within a couple of days) but I knew this wasn't a weekends worth of work so the lunch & STW was always a safe bet :augie

He is however always welcome over to my lockup where I will treat him to a Tesco Meal Deal provided he turns up in his Rolls Royce :thumb2

Done!

So, I decided that to take the bike to the next level was going to cost more than the value of the thing, so moved it on to an enthusiast in Gloucester somewhere, who was over the moon with it!

Wasn’t the 550 supposed to be the best of that era of GSs? Roller main bearings, I think? Plumbing the depths of memory so that may not be correct.

I had a 550 back around 85 and it was a nice bike

I wanted the 650 Katana as that had a shaft drive but they were a very rare bike hence me buying a 550
