The story of Altberg boots.....

+1

I've tried many of the European walking boot alternatives, none of which are cheap, and many come up way too narrow for me. I ended up buying a pair of XW Tethra boots a half size larger than my usual fitting to allow for thicker socks and have had 8 years service from them so far. They were like putting a pair of slippers on from day one, no break in needed. Supremely comfortable, supportive and the best made boots I've ever owned. I also have a pair of their "Defender" boots which whilst not classed as waterproof, have been. Treated with Ledergris regularly, I've waded shallow streams in these and they've kept my feet bone dry and refuse to wear out some 10 years on. I wouldn't buy any other walking boot. I keep meaning to buy some of their Clubman boots and hope one day to have a pair.

Many years ago just when the Altberg family were setting out I had a position where I could place orders and recommend kit for procurement.
I met Catherine (Kathryn) and found them great people and I visited the factory.
Their kit was brilliant and so we placed an order and that continued for many years. I believe it still does.
For me Altberg are the best out there for footwear. My family have also used them for over 30 years now on a personal basis.
Great family, Great heritage. Great kit.
What’s not to like.
Sincerely, I wish them all well.

I am on my second pair of Roadrunner bike boots (my feet have got wider with age). I did not buy them from Altberg direct as they were out of stock but from some other retailer, sorry, can't remember the name. I also recently bought a pair of Kisdon hiking boots. These are made on what they call the G-Fit last, specially for wide feet. I ordered them from a place called Taunton Leisure who offer a fitting service by email or over the phone. They were extremy thorough - got me to measure my feet, take photographs of them, and measure them again while standing on my insoles and then recommended a boot and size. This has proven to be spot on.

Taunton Leisure are brilliant to deal with. I tried several pairs of Altbergs from them and simply sent back the ones that didn't fit. Their advice was sport on, their service excellent and their pricing competitive.

I remember riding up to the factory/shop on a Sunday to take a look at some boots. Got there and it was closed!

There was a guy doing some work in the garden, asked if he could help us and told us he worked there and would let us in. Showed us some boots, told me not to by the Clubman as they weren’t a decent fit for my feet. Left thinking how great an individual to let us in, knowing he couldn’t sell us anything as all the tills were down, and to also talk me out of a pair of boots! Turns out it was the owner… lovely bloke!

Ended up with Altberg walking boots, can’t vouch enough for them. Versus my more expensive Scarpa’s I go for the Altberg’s every time!
