The Time Has Come

I used to have a 1150GSA back in 2004 and since then I've had a K1200S and a K1200GT, my dealer has been good enough to loan me a couple of 1200GS's when my bike has been in for servicing etc and I've even had a couple of test rides on their 1200GSA.

Well, the time has come to have one of my own and I've just done a great deal on a new 1200 GSA 30th Anniversary bike. I'm going to pick it up next Friday (22nd Oct)

I've been a lurker here for quite a while and have even had a ride out with one or two of you while I had my KTM 640 Adv.

Hopefully, I can put into practice some of the stuff I've learnt here.

It's all quite sad really. They haven't had a good couple of years with KTM, first of all KTM put their prices up by 25% which made them very expensive and then Sideways found out that another dealer were getting their bikes cheaper from KTM and they just couldn't compete. Despite the Victory side of the business doing very well they just couldn't sustain the business model and have sadly decided to call it a day. It's a great shame as they're all a great bunch of guys.

I picked it up this morning from CW Motorcycles after a great hand over, I left the showroom at 11.30 and returned home about 17.00 after a good, shake down ride.

The light protector is the BMW one in their catalogue. Typical BMW, well made and looks good and costs about £40.

The big part of the deal was what they gave me on my two trade ins. I had a Victory Hammer and a K1200GT. With the Victory the problem was that no-one wants a cruiser at this time of year but they gave me a fair price for it and also the K, it was three years old and had 53,000 miles on the clock. I had one offer from Ocean (Plymouth) at £3500 and CW's gave me just a little under the book price for a bike with 33,000 miles, which I was much happier with. I've been a CW customer for 24 years and have only ever bought a couple of bikes elsewhere. I always shop around but CW's always do me a good deal, they look after me in the aftersales arena too, loyalty is a two way street and I get all my kit, servicing and a lot of general products from them too, I think this goes a long way when it comes to sitting down and doing a deal on a new bike.

Yes it was bought new and it came with panniers. Before I went for my ride I went home, put my bits and pieces in my tank bag, stuff that I normally carry like puncture kit, tyre inflator, first aid kit etc and also dropped off the panniers.

I've just had a telephone conversation with Richard at Ocean BMW who appears to have read my comment above.

He has pointed out that because they currently have several used 1200GT's in stock he couldn't give me what I wanted for mine and would have had to sell it on within the trade. Therefore the price he quoted for mine as a trade in (£3500) was what he was offered by the trader and not what he'd of liked to have offered me.

I offered to set the record straight as I don't believe my comment above is totally fair as it's not totally clear.
