Hello all,

Well, after few months of thinking about what would be the most suitable top box for me,here is what I decided:

first,I thought about the BMW top box, looks good, but is expansive, had many issues, and might be a bit too squared for me,I was looking for something "round"

second,I did not like the tripod of the 12 GS,because its too hight, when you add the adapting plate + the box, the center of gravity is not good, looks like a tower = :nono

What I wanted,is something like the GS 1150,makes a continous line with the passenger seat.

So the 12 GSA came out, with a perfect rack : steal , low , thin enough, and has 7 points of attachment.

I ordered it. nice piece of kit,the price is BMW :(

after that,I needed the box. Givi ? could be,but I did not want 52 Lt,too big,after they drope to 37 LT.....too small....what else?

I liked Krauser, but finally I found the perfect size and matching box: a H&B 42 LT, black and silver!:bounce1

So I ordered it.

It came with the standart mounting plate, wich is well done, stong, and easy to bolt on.Well,almost. to my taste(I know I am suffuring of mental desorder)
I had to add some rubber around the brackets,+ two pieces made myself with a door atachment (see pictures)...to maintain it laterally.so now it has 6 brackets to bolt on:D

finally,I fond the box attachment system well made, clever,as it uses two strong rails ,easy to clip on the plate.(also see picture)

OK then,I am happy, and to share my enjoyment with you,I taked the bike out the garage (It was stored for the winter) and made some shots.

1 = rubber added 2 = homemade bracket

The locking system :thumb

The only reserve I could say,is with this combo, there is no way to use the vario panniers, but for now I dont need it,because for long trip I use the car (easyer with the family)

last one,its Christmas !

Top box at a lower height - Any Ideas?

I was thinking the same thing last night......why does the box need to be so high??

I got vario side boxes as part of the deal when I bought the bike but don't have them fitted for daily use!

In the meantime, I have a Givi top box secured to a base plate, simply boltedto the tripod! I know that the tripod is potentially weak and I should buy the proper Givi rack with support arms, but I only carry light stuff just now until I decide what to do.

I am considering the proper Givi rack but like the look of Pogos top box being at the lower level. Have any of you guys got another solution that will allow me still to fit the vario side cases?

Hattech Plate

Reading other threads, found the Hattech site it germany, they have a plate which seems to fit my requirements, the top box is down at seat level!

Has anyone here tried it? I need to know if I will still have access to the connections for the vario side cases. This one is pre drilled for a Givi plate but they do one for the Vario too. £149 euros....... thoughts?

Thats my Autocom lead, it connects to my helmet from under the seat.

Wolf, couldn't help noticing your side-stand. Is it the pic or have you changed it and is the bike standing up a little more with it?
This is what happens when you post a pic of your bike - nice BTW, great taste!

I did the "rubber added" trick on my GIVI (another bike) by layering with heatshrink tubing, found it to look a bit more professional than wrapped electrical tape, however, yours looks nice.....:thumb

Stormchaser,

Standard factory side stand. The ground on which the bike is sitting is sloping downwards slightly towards the background.

The bike is fully loaded here as I was just about to leave on a European trip, which would drop the overall height slightly on the suspension, making it appear more upright perhaps.

Ta. Thought there was some trick attached to it all by fitting what looked like a different stand. The old 1150Adv could be a bugger to pull upright fully loaded, esp parked on a camber.

PS - Pogo, nice topcase, looks sharp.

givi box in place of pillion seat

does anyone have a givi box fitted in place of the pillion seat (i have my bmw box fitted there instead of the rack as i rarely carry a passenger - but it's not big enough, panniers are fine but make it a pain to park in london so i try not to use them )

i tried a couple of givi stockists but they were, er, unhelpful. i just need to know if it's possible to fit a givi (52litre / big one!) in place of the pillion seat.

thanks :thumb

Hi Steve,

I dont know about puting a 52 lt Givi on the pillion, but few times I had to carry a big box at this place, and did not like it,because sometimes in long trip I like to move on my seat, and seat back(farther?) so I couldnt....thats why I managed to keep some room behind ..... you know what I mean ?:fiddle A+ Pogo
