Ok so my rebuild of my 89 R100GS is progressing along nice. I’m looking at putting a more modern Ignition, charging and starter on the bike.
If you had it to do over again, what would you put on it?

I’m keeping the original wiring harness so I want a system to plug into that.

I see EnDuraLast Lithium Alternator, Starter, and Ignition systems… whats the advantage of Lithium over other systems?

Have a look at Wedgetail Ignition Systems from Australia.

Nice looking bike, by the way. It's going to be a stunner.

Yep, wedgetail ignition is outstanding - Motobins sell it in the UK.

The Motorworks high capacity charging system works well, and the Nippon Denso starter motor is excellent too.

Silent hectik here. I just have the ignition part. Apart from a slightly fiddly rotary flag adjustment, it is a definite upgrade from the original. I don't get any more mpg, but the idling and around town trickling is noticeably better.

Guys,

Thanks for the replies. After a lot research, I am going the wedge tail route and adding a Enduro Moto EDL4Li Alternator bundle.
really looking forward to the end result.

FWIW 2 of my airheads run on ignition systems triggered off the crank (as opposed to cam) shaft. One is a prototype Boyer, the other Endurolast. Crank-triggering is much more accurate and less prone to wear than cam-triggered systems.

Whilst I totally understand the advantage of the crank trigger, the system seemed to me,a bit flimsy, and didn’t fit very well.
It required the sensor to be packed out with a couple of washers.
I also seem to recall fitting one to a paralever bike some years back and IIRC, we had to machine the front cover as the rotor was fouling on it.
Wedge tail every time for me.
