Just about to go and see a Quest from Dixons - if anyone else wants one there are several about especially in the South West areas. Just ask your nearest store to do an item search 624364 (thanks to previous thread's).
I only need a regional mapping device but am not budget confined and could use the unit on holiday etc. I like to spend wisley - not follow the gigabyte trail.

Before I buy (almost certain now!!) can you techies tell me... any -ve points to consider as I know absolutly nothing about GPS.

Is this still the best starting model or is it getting rapidly outdated?
What else will I need to buy to fit to bike?

Can anyone tell me about the pda options or other weatherproof manufacturers (please keep it simple!).

Cheers

Steve

Just bought my Quest in Brighton on the Dixon deal. If you don't get on with it you can easily sell it on eBay (as Guitarman says) and probably come out on top. I did consider the PDA route going to great lengths to find strengths and weaknesses of different models. IMHO don't buy the HP rz1710 GPS bundle from PC World as its underpowered. My suggestion for a PDA would be to wait a fortnight until the Mitac Mio A201 comes out. It'll knock spots off most handhelds (apart from the really serious stuff) and comes with Windows Mobile 5 and 1GB of memory. It supercedes the Mio 168 which was already a best-seller.
Hope this helps.

I bought a Quest a few months ago at the £329 price (groan). The thing is, I didn't know it would be quite so expensive to get it on the bike and working. I wanted to have it through coms into my hlemet and got a cracking deal on here with a half price Autocoms Pro 7 (which also has rider to pillion coms). That was £140. I also wanted it mounted on my clocks and have ordered a mount from MIGsel (approx £50). I also needed a QPAC power and audio cable (£40) and a Garmin cradle (£9 ish).

Apart from that I've ordered brackets and mounts so as to have my iPod and mobile phone mounted and powered on the bike so these all came to another £90 squid or so

I realise that I didn't need to get all this kit but, hey! It should be fun :D

It all adds up my friend! :thumb

thanks Ronno, I'll get my coat...... and buy a new plastic bag for the paper map - the screen on the existing one has a fault - Tesco written all over it!

My bruvver!

Steve, just posted a thread as you can see.

The guys I met today were pretty good and there's a bike specialist in the team.

Could be worth a chat. Local to me.

Call me early tomorrow and I'll give you the contact details.

If I know you you'll get a good deal from them!! :mmmm :dabone

Martin.
