As a regular mind mither I'm sure afflicts is all, I'm in the FS section looking at the great value bikes on offer...😄
As an owner of a couple of proper " old shitters" not the lovely clean bikes often misappropriated as such, I'm often mentally at the "upgrade" mind fork...
So I read a few of the Hexhead threads with interest and after seeing "special clutch fluid", expensive, fiddly, fixes, Canbus, failing ABS again and dodgy FDs again again I think of the wonders of simplicity our old Oilheads shitters and non shitters are...😄✌️ Especially when they are a "known known"... (Rumsfeld tm)... Been there, done that, got the Motoscan etc...😂

I still think a late 1100GS is the sweet spot.

Having thrown my money at all the rest of them, before and after!
Like a lot on here we can think back to our nearly but not quite bikes, the reasons we sold on and the ££ cost of the each " new dawn"...😂👍I commuted on my old 11GS today and chucked the old tractor at a few corners for amusement...😄

Hand on heart the best GS I’ve ever ridden was an 1100 GS..Even though it was Mikeyboy’s personal bike, I did however have an epiphany, and thought do you really need any more than this..🤔

I have had one in the past as well as most of the other iterations up until the 1200wc, then I completly went off the GS's. I have recently purchased another 1100 and am pondering how far to go with it's restoration. The only stand out fault at the moment is that it needs a new choke cable which already looks like a pig of a job.

Ah yes the throttle/choke cable is a proper PITA job, and one of the dirtiest, oddly enough.

If it’s a late 1100mthe choke cable replacement isnt too bad . Once you’ve worked out to unclip the sliding plastic Bowden Box it’s ok . I found undoing the circlips on the throttle bodies and rotating the bodies meant it was easier to unclip and re clip the cylinder throttle cables

Replacing an 1100 choke/fast idle cable is an absolute doddle compared to an 1150 and it’s over elaborate handlebar lever set-up with its tiny hidden screws and “ping feck-it” parts,

I do wonder sometimes what the facts that I've a) ridden most of BMW's offerings over the past 25 years (and other bikes), and b) have owned 5 Rocksters, and still own 2 say about me.... <worried>
