The Wales Trails 27-29 October 2006 - Return of the Tossers!

Simon/Roy

Give me a view - can this be done on an HP2 or will we all piss ourselves watching?

just on the phone to Roy about this now! difficult we feel. Plus 250 miles there and back would eat the Karoo's. Personally I'm not competent enough for mud like that.

There are three sections of the route that are trickey.

Firstly, there are some stoney steps - not too many - and shouldn't be too much of a challenge. Last year Throb, an off-road newbie, did them OK on his KTM 640 with road-biased tyres. There's an easy 'go-around' for this section.

Secondly, there is the bog (as per the photographs). Several of us struggled with our lightweight pogos. This wouldn't be easy with a heavier bike, particularly without full knobblies, but there'll be quite a few of us to laugh/push/photograph as appropriate.

Thirdly, there's the log-flume. Quite easy in the dry (but we think they'd cleared it a bit), but fecking impossible last October. It's only short with a very easy go-round.

KTM 520, who lives in Loughton, north London, is renting a big van. You could hook up with him to get down there.

The pace is usually quite relaxed. We're always prepared to wait for those who have difficulties/punctures/stalling engines/flooded engines/unscheduled trips to the scenery.

GFI!

defo interested...

But I'll be buggered if I know what I'm doing next week, let along October or November. Let me know which is confirmed and I'll get it in the diary!

...especially in the light of the current 'restrictions' that the slimy toerags have implemented would it not be a good idea to 'hire' the services of a local guy like we did the first time?

I for one would be more than happy to cough up a few quid....makes sense with local knowledge and contacts with maybe 'friendly' farmers :bounce1

....could save a lot o'grief and frustration...whatdayathink? :bounce1

To be honest, I wouldn't bother.

Last time out, I thought that we found quite a good route for the Friday (all bona fido not only on the map, but also on the trails themselves). Only the very last trail was closed for maintenance.

For the Saturday, we found a couple of sections were out of bounds - one of which we still used (just after we left you), the other we went around. It was still a pretty good and hard ride.

What are other people's views?

Got room for another pogo ?

Oct prefered though as Nov-Dec are the busiest time of the year for me.
Noddy,

It'd be great to have you on the ride. (October preference noted)

Greg

Greg, just to confirm that I'm happy for either of the weekends, just that I have a preference for the November one. Also I thought that we did OK on finding our own way round last time. As we now know the routes why do we need someone to show us the way? :nenau

Looking forward to another great weekend :thumb

Would be a even better weekend if a couple of people decide to make a race of it, KTM super enduro V BMW HP2 :D Sadly it won't be me, unlike my KTM the HP2 doesn't fit in my van. :(

Guys - as this thread has gone a little quiet in terms of new interest, I'm going to go with the majority and plump for 27-29 October.

I'll PM you all.

Hi Greg,

Sorry for the late reply, I've been sorting my pass. Is there room for another?

I may not get across for the Friday run and wonder if anyone is interested in doing something on the Sunday morning rather than the early dirty dash of the last trip?

Yes, there's still room!

Do you want accomodation for the Friday night? Please advise. Can you send me a £30 cheque for the deposit, please (payable to the hotel)?

Personally, I'd prefer Friday afternoon and Saturday and be able to get home at a half-decent hour on Sunday. That said, I won't have to leave before Sunday breakfast this time.

I don't know how others feel about a Sunday ride.
