On the Saturday, I suggest that we stick to the tried and tested route:

However, shall we run it clockwise (as we normally do) or anti-clockwise?

If we decide anti-clockwise, we all have to ascend this little number:

You decide!

any route that avoids water.

i hate water.

On past performance ascending this little number proved a hill too far for one of our number in search of his number plate. Was it 3 or 4 attempts?

if those with the GPS are happy run it backwards then I think that could be a lot of fun i.e we might go wrong and have to ride a few bits more than once - hehehe!! :thumb

What are the plans for the Friday?

Cheers

HP 2 riders....beware

All you chaps with very large testicles that are going to attempt this on your HP2's make sure you bring a condom or two..... :ymca

.... to stick over the front of the air inlet. Judging by the depth of some of the water the same time last year the HP's will be very likely to ingest some water!!!!!

Do your little bit on the 29th.

Hi Folks.
During your trail riding weekend, people around the country involved in the use of unsealed rights of way will be assembling together in to working parties to undertake some form of repair or maintenance task, thus putting a little back in and ensuring the routes stay passible for all to enjoy.
The Natonal Green Lane Day is organised for Sunday 29th of October.
So, if whilst your out and you come across, for example, a collapsed stone wall or a tree traversing/blocking the path, have a stop for a while and try to correct the problem. Even a small pair of garden secetars in your rucksack could be packed and cut back some of the nose splitting brambles the grow across the lanes.
If you find any problems that will need heavy repair, make a note of the location and either post it on here or even better contact the local County Council Highways Dept and they can arrange to get it sorted.
Enjoy yourselves....
....and watch out for the deep fords!!!! :thumb

I thought that we'd try and do what we did on the Friday when we were last there - in this case in the clockwise direction (opposite to last time).

what tyres you running on the hp2 for wales?

Just the standard jobbies - not sure what they are, but the tread pattern looks a bit worrying - not very knobbly at all

The same routes as last time. We can decide which way round we go on the day.

I would suggest that we aim to ride out of the Brynafon at 13.00hrs on Friday. Would anyone have a problem with that?

Greg

Hi Greg,

Assuming these are Garmin routes, is there any chance of posting the MapSource .gdb file?

On Saturday, as it doesn't get light until about 8-ish, we'll aim to ride out of the Brynafon at 09.00hrs

It gets dark at about 5.45pm, but we should have time to:

  • ride the 85 miles
  • have a mid-morning fuel/coffee break
  • Simon to buy a new tyre and tube
  • Me to un-flood my bike
  • Throb to start his bike
  • and Charlie to wash the dirt off his!

Looks like I will have to get up early to get the XR started

Friday and Saturday Route

Greg

Is the Friday route easier than Saturday? ie on Firday no bogs and deep rivers.

If so I will probably take both bikes. and use the SE on Friday and the 520 on sunday.

Thoughts?

Yes, IMHO, the Friday route is a fair bit easier and there are no rivers and there were no bogs when we did it in June. However, it's now October .....
