The war effort in Scotland - Inchindown.

Dunno much about it but if you decide to go up that way, the WWI and II gun emplacements north and south of Cromarty are well worth a look.

Yes, thanks. A trip with numerous points of interests is on the cards so I'll note Cromarty down, cheers. :thumb2

Yeah your right, i saw that this week...i think itbwas the One Show (no idea why I was watching the One Show though :nenau )

There didnt seem like a huge amount to tell you they were there from ground level (for obvious reasons) except a few concrete entrances to what looked like well secured gates. Not sure there would be much of interest unless you could get through that tiny little pipe that leads into the tanks themselves. And as far as i can work out from comments about Tossers on this site, i reckon 99% of Tossers have no chance of fitting through the pipe entrance... Start dieting and you may have a chance in a few years time :hide

Inchindown fuel depo

I've been told about a large fuel bunker depot in Scotland known as Inchindown.
Have you been there or do you know any info on the site?
A quick Google came up with a little info, but there seems to be little to justify a visit, or do you know different?;)

Hi i just thought i would let you know about the fuel storage at Inchindown,we live about 4 miles from the old storage unit, and as far as i'm aware there is no access to the unit, although you can walk up to the gates but you can not go inside the tunnels, the cromarty firth was a large naval and army base in the first and second world wars, and some of the first aircraft used by the naval wing of the royal flying corps(formed 1912) was used from the naval air station at cromarty (sea planes used) If you are going to be in our area and want more info i can or put you in touch with someone that can help,it,s a good stop on your way north, and if you give me a bit of warning i'll get the kettle on,thanks Garry.:flag:flag
