The world best driving road is in Portugal.

I did that road a couple of weeks ago and, although it is really good, SWMBO made me keep stopping for fecking pictures and to buy fresh cherries from roadside stalls. After half a kilo of cherries I shat for England, kid you not. To say it is the best is stretching it a bit although we are all entitled to our opinion. I think the roads to the East on the Spanish border are as good, over the mountain tops and the road up to Torre was easily equal to it and a lot cooler. Better road to be found just North of Almeria but I can't for the life of me remember what it is called, I will try to find one of those stitched together pictures I took and post it.

Had some amazing riding over Portugal.
I remember fondly the road going up monte torre.

Remembered, its the ALP 405 up to Velefique

I'm not sure if this is the same but those spanish roads are the dog's bollox - and Spanish riders have the balls to match :)

I concur.....much better on an XTZ...more lean :P

We call it the Scalextric Track and for good reason :)

Too true, but have a heart mate my holiday cottage is half way up that road - but I live there pretty much all winter when I have the Pyrenean roads all to myself :)

Still on topic, just, anyone know this lovely pass?

Hi,

Well spotted - the first picture is one the road into the Ordesa gorge, Mote Perdido is beyond the head of the valley. Access is restricted in summer bit in winter you can drive/ride into the National Park.

Second picture, nope, it's in Navarre, almost at the other end of the Pyrenees. The landscape is quite different but at least in Navarre the roads cross the Pyrenees near the 'summits', which do appear similar, rather than in the valleys or 'Colls' that are very deep clefts in the mountain ridge, unless you know where to look :)

There are several "Roads of death" in Portugal, most well known is the N road adjacent to the now tolled motorway leading from the south of Spain to Faro. ride it sensibly and it shouldn't be a problem
