Thelma's Side Stand

Hi All

Someone has asked me about Thelma's side stand and where to get one (for those not in the know, Thelma is my 1992 R80GS)

Apparently it's an aftermarket one- and the original ones are often a pain in the arse to use.

Get someone to weld yer a piece of 8mm iron bar/bolt on to yer original
s/stand then yer dont have to outstretch yer leg to set it out

I don't think it's you, but I wouldn't recognise a specific aftermarket stand even if I had seen Thelma. Steptoe might know?

I'm guessing Thelma sports the lesser spotted surefoot sidestand, some say you can obtain such a thing from Bob Porecha but some who have tried have failed.

What people have been able to do though is obtain a very sporty number from MiGSel which is a nice piece of kit indeed, not showing on his website at the moment though so I suggest you PM him here

Stupid question from an uneducated XCountry rider, but what are the details of the bike above, I can see it is an R80 G/S, but can anyone give any further description of the above bike, other than its red.....

It's Duncan's (Arkwright) bike.

Far too clean for an airhead and in need of a serious off roading session to take the shine off it

I think it's you Rob. I assumed she was looking for an aftermarket side stand. I've posted a link to Motorwork's Surefoot side stand page which shows a stand for the GS. Perhaps it's me, is that not what she was looking for?

Standard g/s with paralever seat and tank, aftermarket (not original) end can and front fork brace. As in post, a migsel side stand and one of verns topboxes. Looks like aftermarket handgrips and end weights as well. The barrels look clean so they have either been beadblasted or possible exchanged for 1000 cc jobbies. Also seems to have the 320mm front disc upgrade. The bit that im interested in is who made the link from the collector box to the endpipe...and where can i get two of them?

Also: cut down left side side panel (or off a mystic/r100r?)... and a kickstarter gearbox
Looks lovely to me....

As for the link pipe...I recon most metalwork shops will be able to fabricate what you need.... its only the internal and external diameters you need.... and a wee bend in the middle to get it to fit

Aye... but its the 'wee bend' that is the bit that needs to be spot on.
