I'm slumming it tonight. One or two drams of cask strength Cragganmore will have to be reinforced by the bottle of Glen Moray that needs getting rid off. Dinnae like it much. Very bland and I can see why it's under fifteen quid

( planning a big day oot in the morning so don't want a sair heed if I mix the wine and whisky..)

and tonight it is 19yo Linkwood single cask, cask strength at 53.5%ABV bottled for a Swedish based Scotch Whisky specialist. Actually quite unusual as the owner opted to bottle it as a 19yo just 1 month short of it's 20th anniversary. Filled to cask in April 1989, bottled in March 2009.

Ohhh yes, it's good, very good. Slàinte.

Tescos Finest Trinidadian Golden Rum

Not at all bad and not as harsh and fiery as the Cadenheads cask strength Trinidad 14 year old at 61.1% from the Caroni distillery that is very slowly being worked through. Hoping it lasts long enough for the Ron Zacapa to come back into stock

Fave whiskies - Cragganmore, Talisker 18 yr old, or Bushmills

Had a strange tasting wine last night whose nose was almost whisky-ish, and that had a lot of caramel/ buttered popcorn taste. I reckon it was the oak-casking effect.

It was a 2004 Cathedral Cellar Chardonnay (South African), for the record.

And the notes on the back fell foul of one of my pet peeves: they were all written in CAPITALS, which makes it so hard to read.

I like whisky, i find it hard to find fault with many and I am unlikley to turn down any offer of a glass.

The one make that changed my views on scotch whisky was a Glendronnoch, i picked it off the shelf because of its very pale colour, but the light gentle taste was enough to start me thinking that single malts had a lot more to offer than the heavy, peaty almost medicinal flavour that had been a feature of most malts I had sampled.

I still buy a bottle when I see it and it still tastes as good as the first time

But my tastes have changed, some recomendations from 'experts' on here have allowed me to appreciate many styles, Lagavulin, Bruichladich, Talisker, Laphroig, Port Charlotte etc have along with many others, brought great pleasure (and a little pain at times).

Some people say they don't like whisky Now I just realise they just havn't found the right bottle yet.

So the one bottle I would keep? The Glendronnoch, not because it's my all time favourit but it does bring back some great memories

I got pissed on Slivovca in a bar in Supetar, Brac in the late 80s. Felt fine until I had to go for a piss and my legs wouldn't work. Weirdest drunk I've ever felt
