any one got any suggestions for good thermals

my damarts need replacing but at 40 odd quid I wondered if any of you had tried the Marks and sparks offerings

Not that they have any in stock

Cold weather, people buy thermals, shop sells out

Hot weather, people buy fans, shop sells out

Seriously though, I bought mine from the army surplus store. They were NEW and not some old squaddies things. They were £20 for the top AND trousers. Toastiest kit I've ever bought....

I bought some yesterday from Go Outdoors, £7.50 for a top and long johns - bargain.

They were going very fast though (a lot faster than they will be going with me wearing them Skiing over xmas.

so long at your the right size George Whites had cold killers for two for a fiver, they are really warm highly recommended

I don't think that 1200 riders have particularly different requirements from other motorcyclists, in terms of thermals. However.....unless M&S have changed the specification of their "thermals", they've got cotton in them. This is not a good thing. Splash the cash and buy a set of merino wool undergarments - Icebreaker or possibly, Chocolate Fish. Layer with other wool, silk or wicking polyester garments - not cotton.

+1 on Merino wool.

Absolutely excellent and is good all year as it will wick sweat away in the heat.

Expensive but very good.

And for lovely warm and dry feet - Sealskinz Socks

Waterproof and breathable.
Windproof.
Merino wool lining for comfort and wicking performance.
and very comfortable.

They might be expensive, but they are well worth it.

Definitely go the Merino wool way, might be more expensive but by far the best and doesn't start to odour after a couple of hours like man-made fibres. Have tried quite a few brands of Merino wool garments and Icebreakers is the best for quality, shape keeping and comfort. Great for travel and camping as they can last a few days before needing a wash. I managed to get some at half price when the local BLACKS shut down. Merino wool t-shirts are great for all year round wear, not just for layering in winter.

Seelskinz socks are great and merino wool again.

Go outdoors sell their own brand of Merino Wool socks for about £5 a pair and they are great. Got thinner ones from John Lewis for summer use. I think it was 3 pairs for £12.

Shovelled snow for hours today and merino t-shirt performed great at wicking the sweat away, and it still smelled fresh at the end of it.

It was through this site that I got the advice to try out Merino wool stuff and I am very pleased that I followed the recommendations. You will not be disappointed.

I find the EDZ base layer top pretty good. If it's really cold I also wear Helly Hansen Lifa long johns. My H-G trousers (Voyagers, I think) have a detachable thermal lining for winter riding.

I used to wear Swedish Millitary Thermals but they were too warm!

I now use BMW thermals - When Aberdeen motorrad moved to Tayside they sold a lot of stock at discount price and I picked them up there.

They have parafin panels like a wet-suit type of material, not too hot, they seem to regulate temperature well.

Only downside - they look a bit star-trek but they do the job and very comfortable...

Yep, I've been wearing my other halfs thermal leggings at work all week, white with rather dainty flowers embroidered in them !!

It's all about layers that trap air at the end of the day, the merino stuff is very good but it's expensive. A couple of pairs of tights under your leathers are probably just as effective ...

I've been using the Halvarrson thermals, 50% Merino wool & 50% outlast.
Not cheap, but they do what it says on the tin
