OK, I ought to know by now, but suddenly I'm not sure where they should go. The filter is the bendy one. The bike is a 1982 R100RS.
There is a large O ring that fits between the the filter and the cover (it looks square in the diagram, but that is probably because it is squashed in position,) the square section neoprene one goes inside that in the cover, I'm pretty sure of that, I mean, where else could they go. Then there is the shim of the same diameter as the large O ring. Is this needed in my case, i.e. with oil cooler and thermostat? If so, then where should it go: position 'A' on the cover side of the O ring or position 'B', on the engine side of the O ring. And what is it for, anyway?
