Back in the day,you would make loads of special tools,they may just have been a bit of bent bar to pin a sprocket or something but once you’ve made it you have it forever,
That socket will get used a lot now we are guzzi specialists

No prob,
Unfortunately I had to throw the patina away,it had already rotted a 1200 to bits and there was a danger it may infect one of my bikes,
Luckily we do have a remedy for this serious infliction,
A bucket,some water,and some autosol apply when needed

I've had a sleepless night trying to suss this one out

Those little scuffs where the chain occasionally brushed against the casing, isn't that where the tensioner sits? Was there actually a tensioner in there??

Ha ha, I'm looking forward to following this too - my love affair with Cali's lasted just about 1.5 kms when after a series of very hairy bends I got hopelessly lost with the gearbox and ended up in fourth or even fifth instead of third - or even second! - and wobbled hopelessly all over the road and was heading straight into the abyss on the left before deciding to steer the bike into the ditch on the right and basically bale out, I simply stood up and rolled backwards - a personal best for bravery* - while the bike carried on alone until it rode itself to a halt just before attempting to fly.

I'd hardly got up when a tractor came around the bend with some implement with huge knives on the front - which thanks to the learn something new every day dept. I now know to be a 'vertical conveyor reaper' - which was, or seemed, considerably wider than the tractor itself!

So keep up the good work chaps!

* it actually was quite 'brave' to fall of a bike on purpose, especially as its owner was following in the car with Mrs S ...

PS, the ditch was much deeper then - it fills up with run-off mud and they did it out again every summer ...

Ha,early tensioner is just a small pad.
Works ok if you actually adjust it
The marks on the casing are where the the chain was flapping either side of it.
Whilst on the subject,
In order to fit electronic ign,one normally sets it up and adjusts things
Anyway,I went for a ride on the new improved old girl,
