thetford forest trail ride

Hi Andy

Sure do remember you. Since then i've put 4500 miles on the clock toured the West Country spent a week in North Wales and dropped it once trying to wrestle it off the centre stand [ embarrassing ]

STX1300 has seen the light and bought a new GS650 [ Canary ] and he will be doing his best to fall off in Thetford!

No regrets in trading the Ninja for a Hippo should have done it sooner.

Just don't go too quick on that supermoto of yours, remember Hippo's are lumbering beasts!

Regards
Pristine Yellow Hippo [ for how long? ]

Off roading for beginners!

I am sorely tempted to come down and have a dabble! I live in Beverley, Esat Yorks but sounds like a great day out!
Never been off road (on purpose) before but never owned a bike like my 1100GS before either.

Cheers
Andy.

Top Box

Andy, Yes the top box is fine and you are right my other two have had no use since I got the GS, I have had the Pan out today to sync the carbs, its not as easy as the GS and of course I had to road test it after, I thought t was bolted to the floor when I tried to get it of the centre stand and after the lightness and throwability of the GS the Pan feels heavy & cumbersome, I thought the GS would be a big trail bike not suited to touring, I was wrong its an All Terrain Tourer and the Pan will have to go, its been a great bike and Iv'e had a lot of pleasure from it, its never missed a beat but it ain't in the GS class.

The Blackbird however is a different story !!

i've never seen a 200+kg bike fly before, just let us know when your going to do it and we can get out the way.Andy:D :D

No Andy, you've got it wrong. It's me that does the flying, and the warthog stays on the ground. At least, that's what happened last time.

Ahhh. Would that be the little throttle gadget that I ripped off and chucked in the bushes within 30 seconds of my off?

Steve.

Hi Adrian,
A boat is short for Byway Open to All Traffic, they are very old roads some dating back to saxon/roman times but are untouched by us,some are very difficult and some are very easy to ride, the thetford route is very easy and would be ideal for a beginner as it is flat with no big obsticles like rocks or logs there are no rivers to cross, nearly all of us are using road tyres but there is a fair bit of grass to ride over so common sence and riding to your ability is needed but it has been done 2up on oilheads so i'm sure you will be fine there are times on the run where we brake back on to normal roads so if it you don't want to carry on you can peel off at any time,it's not a race and we are not going to get airbourn at anytime it's just a day out riding in the woods stopping here and there and talking GS's so come along for the ride you will love it.Andy

cheers

thanks for your reply, I will try and make the thetford forest thing a goer and I find myself looking forward to it. It must be an age thing I always had sports bikes but cant tell you how much I enjoy the GS, I could swear it can go round some bends faster than me mille. I can feel a new world opening up !! oh could anyone tell me how to clean me spokes. they are all black and manky. would wonder wheels do it ? it says not for chrome on the box ? see attachment if anybody wants a pillion for company ? be warned it`s not for the faint hearted, sorry if it`s not allowed but I am new to all this adrisnorus

Wow she looks lovely! I would offer to take her along but unfortunately I only have a single seat - next time maybe?

The byways should all be very easily doable on big old oilheads with tourances or T66's fitted - it all depends on the weather. Andy and I along with a few other mates rode the route a few months back after it had been raining for a week - the route was still doable but a little slippery hence I fell off in a big pile of mud which was nice. Most of the lanes are very easy and can be nailed at great speed, however it won't be a race and first timers won't be expected to keep up with the lunatics like Andy!

Andy and I will try and get out before the run and recce the route - if the weather is dreadful then we can play it by ear. I know the route pretty well and know the areas that are likely to cause us problems so if it's too wet we can avoid them and head off for an early lunch.

If you have any, if might be an idea to bring plugs and canisters or levers and tubes along just in case. It would also help if you can easily get your feet down just in case it gets slippery. I'm too short to get my feet down on my 1040GS so I'll probably be riding the XRV (not as bad as an XR250!) - hope nobody minds!

See you all in a few weeks.

Adam

confusion

rogers got me scared to death with pictures of death defying tricks in three feet of water, now adam has said it may be beneficial to bring and I quote PLUGS CANNISTERS LEVERS AND TUBES, come on adam whats the score is there more to this than meets the eye or what, is there to be some sort of sacrifice the new boy thing I cant explain that to me missus, lost his life in thetford forest he was plugged canned levered and tubed, left for dead and drowned to boot ? ah well I shall just have to come and find out for meself...se ya`ll there the guy in the attachment went down the road on his face with no helmet on, he was full of morphine when photographed. ..dont show the kids this it may give em nightmares, it gave them to me !!! p.s. your system would not allow the attachment to be posted sorry adriasnorus

Off Roading

Make us Have It !!!!!
The yellow Hippo & the Canary will be in attendance. Ta to the organiser.:beerjug:

PLUGS-CANNISTERS-TUBES-LEVERS

Adrian,
don't let that picture put you off it's nothing like that honestly, surely you take tyre plugs and some sort of device to inflate your tyes when your road riding as there is always a chance you might get a flat when your out, even more so when your riding off road, but don't worry as I am taking my compressor and plugs if no one has any I DO so we can fix punctures if anyone gets one, as for levers we will have to cross that bridge when we come to it but hopefully we won't.:D Andy

GS event?

It would seem that some members want to ride other makes of bike at this event. I Don't want to be suffering on my GS when others are whizzing off into the distance on their katooms!!
Surely if an off road ride is organized for the GS club then members should have the decency to ride their GS.

Enduro Racing

What about girlies turning up on a man's machine!

I'm with you lets see SOME GS's at this " easy? " ride in the woods or we might just as well call ourselves The Enduro Riders Association or The Trail Riders Fellowship!

I prefer the title All Fall Down Wiv Me GS club:clap
