On the 21/6 all was fine with me, the world and my beast, however, today, the beast has been in for it's 10,000km service and guess what.......

It needs a new shaft drive - the old one has'nt contracted the 'falling apart' disease that has afflicted many. but mine has decided to leak it's oil all over d'place :( :( not good when it's supposed to be sealed for life......

Oh well, they do say that BMW guarntee is a good one.... I think I'll get pissed...

The rear drive seams to be no big deal unless you have to pay for it... let me give you an example.

My bike went in for service at 6000km. I left the bike with the dealer and signed off on the work order. I get a call a couple of hrs. later and was tld. by the service mgr. that the bike was bumped by a delivery truck and fell on it's shaft drive side. Aside from the cylinder cover and mirror the shaft drive was scratched.

The dealer ended up paying for the repairs and tld me the shaft drive would have to be changed. The cost of a new shaft drive is about $2000.00 cdn.

It takes no more than two hrs. to take off the old one and exchange for the new one... so its really not the end of the world. Mine has been working well and I do ride the bike hard. I'm sure you were just a little unlucky witht the first one but the second will last you many many yrs...... so relax, and enjoy the fact that bmw is covering you under warranty.

Ciao, Howard:beerjug:

Yeah But...........

Your side of the Pond get a 3 year warranty I thought. surely this means, that as we only get 2 years we must ride a lot Harder, Further and are more Rufty tufty with Europe Models :D
