They always run rough after a long journey

After a long blatt around Europe, I have always found whatever iv'e been riding in need of a service. Usually the idle is rough as well as low speed throttle response generally, and clutch/gearbox action clunkier than normal.

Albeit that this often falls short of the normal service period.

Presumably throttle body balance may be an issue but do you think that an engine oil change would have any worthwhile effect?

I'd be interested to hear your views.

i find a carb/throttle balance is all that is usually needed. on bmw's, not even that mostly.

Sorry to sound controversial after one of your posts again (not intended as a wind up) but I`ve never noticed any of my bikes feeling rough after a long trip.

Saying that,I`ve always given them a full service before going abroad.

Again,referring back to the 'love of speed' (and without red ragging),although a machine is rated as being able to run constantly within its full performance envelope,if it`s spending most of its time in the upper part of its rev range,and perhaps at high ambient temperatures,then it could well start feeling rough after a while....and thus need (and benefit from) a tune up and oil change earlier than scheduled.

Just a thought.....

Last year, when my 'bike (1150) had approx' 6,000 miles on the clock, I did a 2,000 mile run in three days. After that the 'bike ran much better. It was much smoother, faster and mechanically quieter. I put it down to it probably being the end of the running in process............maybe........ish......
