Things to check before 300 miles on untested oilhead

Twice now I've flown up to Edinburgh, checked out the bikes ( 100PD and an 1100GS) and rode them back to Leicester.... both got me home without any drama.... Just have a good look around the bike before you get on it :thumb
I've done that- fly to London ride bike back to Hollyhead and onto boat. JJH

here it is. paint is a bit shabby and currently running on just one cylinder but I'm assured it's a good old donkey. will need to fabricate some pannier brackets but I'm told it's good for 90mpg. what do you think?

well yes he would have to ride it back from durham to fife, but it would be alot less miles to his his home in fife :thumb
the offer is there if you need it mate

At least you're not all in a tizzy wondering if you've got a "counterfeit GS" like the one fella over on ADV. :eek

Just put petrol in it and ride home! Let us know how it goes and post some photos!

Yup, bought my 1100GS in Yorkshire 3 years ago, just paid the cash, got on and road home, 300 miles back to Somerset, checked nothing.

Only remember as as I wobbled up the road for the first few miles thinking 'that the f@*k had I bought, then the grins started :)

Don't know if the 1100 is the same but you don't lose any oil removing the filter on the 1200, other than what is in the filter itself. If so you could just change filter and make sure oil level is ok.

Wrong! Oil will piss out, if you do try this please make sure someone is video-ing!!

Check the weather. Lots. Nothing worse than getting wet.:D

It's happening Sunday regardless of weather. I'm new to the GS but not to riding so I have wet gear which will be coming with me in case it's needed ;)

On ya Gordon, you won't be desapointed.
I bought my first 1150GS 4 years ago and I still love it.
I drove 300km with my son to go and see it, took a test ride and she came home with us on the back of ute.

Maybe we should form a rescue chain just incase it breaks down ?

I can offer assist in and around the Manchester Airport region.

Anyone north or south that can add another rescue link ? :D

almost at Manchester, running well. fuel guage keeps going up and down though! had to stop to check I wasn't leaving it all up the M6 :D
