"Why would any one buy a GS gets a puny little tank, a tiny screen, you have to buy crash bars, I don't get why people would buy a lesser bike!! "
Couldn't agree MORE I'm 5 6" and about 135lbs (11 stone) when I was new to riding... I bought a F650 Dakar and had to buy loads of extras to get it ready for my European/Stans trips including crashbars, pannier rack, panniers, hand guards, chain tensioner, scottoiler the list goes on.
When riding I ALWAYS had to stop off more then everyone else and it really gave the people I was riding with the hump after a bit.
I now have a 2006 GSA that I bought a few months ago to play around on, best bike ever and it still feels like the Dakar when I throw it around, yes the huge tanks a pain when its FULL and I'm off the bike and moving it around, but overall it's FREKKING BRILL, especially now I have the low seat on it.
I wouldn't go for a GS and then go through all the hassle of upgrading it with blooming expensive crash bars and pannier racks and ali luggage, when I can ride a fully loaded GSA and not have to faff about as much.
This is how my ugly looked when I picked her up, 2006 with 27K on the clock full service history, full luggage, and some extras on it for £5,000 so I can't see why everyone bitching about the cost of buying one.
