Thinking about new 1200 GS

Hello to everybody !

I'm a new member on this forum.

I have ride new GS for four hours, and I can not forget this great
feeling.

The only thing in which I'm not 100% sure is the height of that bike, because I'm just 1.71 meter tall. I didn't try the lower seat because they don't have any.

Please tell me what is your opinion.

Only two positions - I'm 170cm and its OK for me on the low position. Just dont stop over any holes.

Welcome to the forum Seba....

Make sure you get engine bars...you'll drop her many times and with bars on, you don't have to worry.
(not about the dropping anyway, the picking-up is another matter )

For a while the GS will seem unwieldy...particularly in car parks with loose gravel, on slopes or as Dahoum said, anywhere where there are uneven surfaces....but you will get used to looking ahead for stopping places and after a few weeks you won't even notice.

There are also many adjustments you can make to lower the riding position.......we have members who are just over 160 cm and they manage.

I wouldn't worry too much about the height. I don't make 1.70m being only 5'5" in old money with 29inch inseam. (1.65m, 735mm)

My GS has a low seat but it is actually not that much lower than the standard seat on low setting because there ia more padding in the standard seat and this compresses to even out the difference. At 1.71 I would say go for the standard seat. It is more comfortable.

I get far more foot on the floor than I used to on sportbikes where the suspension was jacked up to give ground clearance, the trouble is usually the weight but, with the weight of the GS being carried so low down it needs to lean a long way over before it feels like its going to topple.

Admittedly, potholes and road cambers present a bit of a challenge, but ultimately, you will look ahead to avoid these as much as possible and I have found that if anything my feet up control has improved as i avoid foot down whenever i think ther might be a foot/ground interface issue; until I am certain that I can reach the floor.

Been caught out once or twice though!!

Go for it, it may be the best decision you make today.

Do you recommend ABS as additional eqipment ?

Honestly my Serbo- croatian is much better than my English, because I don't have many opportunities to use it.

Just thought I add my two cents worth. (again completely off the thread!)

I agree with HeatedGrips Slovena is a beautiful country. My wife I rode through it last year on our way to Croatia, then again on our way up to Hungary. It's a fantastic country for motorcycling, the roads and scenery, especially around the Julian Alps, was absolutely stunning. In Ljubljana I had a full service including a new rear tyre on my 100GS for about £150! You lucky guys who live there have it all on your door step and the GS is the ideal bike on which to enjoy it.
