Came up against an interesting little conundrum this week. Sold my iPad 2 to a gentleman of this parish. Did the reset to factory settings thing. Went into my iTunes account and deleted it from my list of devices and then thought - job's a goodun!
It turns out that Apple introduced a new feature into iOS 7 that means you can't link a device to someone else's iCloud account without the previous owner going through a delete process here too. Useful security feature, but annoying when you don't know about it!
Apple support was great and showed me how easy it is to delete the iCloud identity and all now sorted. They also emailed a link to an article about how to sort it: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
