I thinking of buying a sena smh5 and am just want to use it for music through garmin 660 so I don't need the mike , will the speakers be loud enough!! I like the idea of the Bluetooth I usually use ear buds with speakers opinion s please

I've no experience of the SMH5, but going by the rest of the Sena range, and the great write ups on here and other sites, you will be happy with that model, I've the 20s and in comparison to my old Autocom it is very LOUD!! with custom plugs in, I have it set to just 20%, anything above that is far too loud IMO!! on my set up anyway!!:thumb

From memory, I don't think that the SMH5 has a socket for you to plug in 'in-ear' monitors. You will need the SMH10 or above to do this.

That said, if you are planning on using the in-helmet speakers and wear ear plugs (which is another way of interpreting what you wrote above :nenau) then, yes, the SMH5 does chuck out enough volume for your tunes. It's not hi-fi quality by any means and a waste of time if classical or subtle musical tones are your thing but fine for most of that new-fangled 'pop' or 'rock' stuff dontcha know! :rob

No the SMH5 is hard wired and like you say, you need the SMH10 to be able to use your own head phones.

Sound quality is why I go with a bluetooth headphone adapter and a pair of Shure SE315 headphones. They're noise isolating and can even be worn without music on as earplugs. This means you don't need the music on that loud to hear it over the bike / wind and can still hear it crystal clear and not drown out emergency vehicle sirens etc. The bluetooth adapter means I can have my iPhone mounted on the bars so I can change tracks / volume and don't have cables attached to the bike. I can't make calls obviously but that's not an issue for me. The OP also suggested that they weren't interested in that aspect too so £30 for an adapter vs £100 for an SMH5 might also make sense for them as well.

Sena do upgraded speakers for the SMH5 (using SMH10 SPEAKERS), we've sold a couple like this. The upgrade is another £23.99. We are Sena dealers.

You can also upgrade your own with the speakers from some cheap Sony headphones for a better quality sound.
