Normal for Norfolk!
I am currently thinking of buying a 2014 RT1200 LE.
are there any known problems?
I have owned a 2011 GS1200 in the past so am used to weight and size etc.
What are your thoughts please guys (and gals of course)

Alternators are the achillies heel on the early units. Big money to replace on a GS never mind the RT

I love mine but they're a bit of a bugger in the hot weather due to the aerodynamics keeping any cooling air away from the rider

A small price to pay for a lovely bike :clap

Mine too. (y)
How come the RT is only faultless/ reliable for 4 years? Are they all pretty much knackered after 4 years? I sort of fancy one but it would be very much an older one. If however, as it seems on here they are only good for around 4 years I will have to think again.

Moved on for a Honda, brilliant weather protection on an RT as long as you stay above 50mph. In the rain you barely get wet.(y)

Mines only done 27k but I'm sure I can speak for the two previous owners (Wreck Diver & Dick the Leg) and say it was in their care & remains in mine 'faultless' :D

Absolutely no issues in my ownership, still rather miss it, it was so much better than the 1250 I replaced it with.

I sold the 1250 and have a RT TC now, off to Spain on it on Friday so let’s see how that behaves.

Looking back the 1200LC was a great bike.

How do I check alternator?
2014 bike we had as a blood bike. Cost in excess of £2k to sort out the alternator and stator at mates rates. Also the exhaust flap will probably be stuck, not an issue though. The bike is fine with it stuck open. If it was me, I would buy a late 2015 onwards, stator was sorted then, unless it has already had the work done. Like everything you might be ok, my own 2014 was traded after 5 years and 40k miles for a 2019 1250RT. I had no stator or alternator issues. The shafts will be changed free by BMW if the bike has done over 36k miles and if it hasn't they will check it for you for a fee and replace if any issues found

My 2013 RT is now around 40k miles.

Absolutely faultless.

Regular servicing, cleans up like new.
