Thinking of swapping the XR for a GS !!

LOL you crack me up
Bike all loaded up ready to come back to me tomorrow and I thought, you know what fuck it ive still got a really bad feeling about this bike, I spent the whole day at work today reading on the net about the problems people have had with them, so I phoned and told them I wanted to exercise my consumer right and reject the bike, they were not best impressed but could see my point,
Ordered a 2026 Africa Twin Adventure Sport tri colour with the red front, manual, having top and bottom crash bars, spot lights, big sump guard, rad guard, tank side protectors, hand guard extensions, plus other bits ive forgotten, anyway its coming to £18K its brand new with 6 year warranty, its being delivered next Thursday, my affair with the 1300GS is now officially over, shame as when it was ok it really was a cracking bike but I think as it has been said before we are still the BMW testers !! and my trust was gone
Roll on the Honda just hope they dont fuck me around with the refund !!

Rob

Yep
I didn’t think they were really trying too hard
I shall widen my search

I've just read this thread and I'm staggered! It seems BMW only get the bike somewhere near sorted right at the end of it's production run.

I think you've made the right choice Rob and going back to Japanese kit is by far and away the best move.

I must say, I've had my Super Ten for nearly 4 years and apart from servicing, I've not put a spanner on it.

People say that S10's, AT's etc aren't GS's but in my view that's a bonus!!

Proof from a 1300GS owner who has had his fair share of problems with it, hope you enjoy the AT test ride Bazza let us know what you think

Cheers Mate, I must say the thought of getting the GS back was worrying the life out of me, after 30 days your consumer rights change and you cannot just back it, after 2 days they do not have a choice !! gone back I just hope they do not piss me about for the refund, the ATAS is coming to £17945 the refund for the GS is £17350 dont need almost £35k odd out on 2 bikes and ive only got 1 lol

I'm sure the dealer will be glad to see you gone
Not really my fault I bought a bike that has a hissy fit after 2 days though is it, and if I had it back and it shit its self again after 30 days the grief id have could equal that of poor Bazza above who cant even get to the dealers to trade the poxy thing without it spitting its dummy Yer not for me im afraid !!

ATAS Manual being delivered Thursday and I cant bloody wait, for me the 1300GS was a bad experience, one I wont be making again

Although it'll most likely be fine from now on I can see loosing confidence it that bike. Thankfully it happened right off which enabled you to reject it. Africa Twins can certainly have their issues (I've had 2) but it seems BMW and KTM can take "problematic" to a whole new level.

What panniers are you getting for the AT? Or are you?
Ive got the SW Motech top loading metal ones I kept from my last one, along with the Yoshimura end can, GS style rear splash guard, bar risers, Honda tank bag all bits that I stored rather than sold, must have known something LOL

Note this is my second 1300 as the first one was replaced due to continual breakdowns. Best was having to leave it in France and fly home.

Add me to the list of R1300GS owners completely happy with the bike, 12500 miles no problems at all. For me it’s a big improvement from the 1250 which was a small improvement over the 1200 which was a big improvement over the 1150. I have had them all and imho the 1300 is by far the best yet.
I on the other hand wouldn’t have one as a gift. Too many close mates have had far too many significant problems with them. And to make it worse, it looks like a Honda :D

With all huge leaps in design and technology there’s always going to be teething problems . BMW have the guts to push ahead with advancement whereas many of the other manufacturers go for the safe option and produce the same old .

Click bait.

He chose the Ducati for his RTW jaunt - and said he’d make the same choice again. If he’d opted for BMW he’d still be stuck half way round somewhere in the back of beyond…

You really are deluded .
Push ahead with advancement ? By sticking with an engine from the 1930s which can’t be tweaked much more.
The 1300 uses a decade old TFT and they still refuse to fit backlit switch gear on a £20k+ plus bike .
The latest TFTs are bigger, have many more functions including built in nav and touchscreen, unlike the old BMW jobby.
BMW have finally joined the auto box route , yet it’s poor compared to the other manufacturers .
All they seem to be advancing are the number of bikes being left on the dealer sales floor and the number of owners leaving the brand .

This loaner is my first experience of the ASA. I find it much jerkier in the auto changes when not at full throttle than the Honda DCT system in auto mode, although it is lovely in manual mode.

I get your drift........ But if you buy a new bike and maybe only expect to keep it short term, you wouldn't want to waste that time back and forth to the dealership. Or not trust it doing a Tour.

if you like to squeeze through traffic you will regret it

take one to try some filtering and nadgery maneuvering between narrow obstacles

they will offer 12k for what you have and always expect to make a min of 3k to swap - and then they like to play numbers, so expect to hand over 6k for a slightly scabby secondhand one, or 11k for a new one -
I squeeze through traffic all the time on my GSA 1250 (with panniers) all the time. It's just like Beggars Canyon... 🤣🤣
