Several Jap bike owners have said "you're obviously running lean".

My old GS didn't have chromed pipes, so difficult to compare.

What does the learned panel think??

Thanks - just what I thought (on both counts!).

Just had the seeds of doubt planted the THIRD time a pocket-rocket rice-burner pilot said "you've got a lean-running problem there mate". Next time I will confidently reply "Nah, they all do that - don't you know nuffink about bee-ems, you numptie...?"

For real entertainment, rev the engine for a few seconds and have a look at the colour

On my 1150 they'd go a nice cherry red at around 4000 rpm

Beemers only have single skin headers, whereas chromed Jap bikes usually have double skinned where the pipes are on show. This stops blueing.

Ah thanks for that I had wondered why there was a difference between my bike and another of similar age but different specification.
