Had my 1st meeting with a sportsbike on friday since buying my 12GS and running it in, Fireblade comes along side in traffic, checks out my bike, I could see he was up for a bit a sport, flys off a a million revs(+sports can ) so I gun it for 1st time, 1 mile of road later at roundabout a very surprized Blade owner does a double take in his right hand mirror, yep I,m right along side him, he almost falls off bike in shock!12GS? Brilliant, brilliant bike man!!


PS I also have GSXR 1000K3 in garage also , so I,m no sports bike hater!

I lost my 04 Blade in November to a muppet who 'didn't see me mate'.

Every cloud has a silver lining however as I have ordered my 12GS for March 1st after being inspired by Mike O and the ability of my mates R1100GS.

Let me assure you, the bloke on the blade wasn't trying. In the twisties, especially on poor surfaces my mate on his GS could keep up and sometimes leave me behind, but on a straight or smooth piece of tarmac there was no contest.

yep above 120mph a sports bike will leave a 12GS way behind, I know, i rode my GSXR 1000K3 down same piece of road as this blade /GS run-in and know exactly how fast these beauties are, anyway ride your bike and have fun , whatever its is!

I also ride/own a sportsbike along with my GS I know the difference in performance

On the road it’s all about personal safety and speeding paranoia. The guy in front will always be doing the points on license risk taking. Having owned a blade and a GS I know that a Blade would slaughter the GS with equivalent ability rider on board. The exception being manky, rutted and pot-holed roads.
Horses for courses etc. Sold the blade after 18 months, kept the GS for 3 years. I’m almost certainly finished with sports bikes - like I said paranoia.

I think you hit the nail on the head there. It's far too easy and far too tempting to see aircraft take off speeds on the litre sports bikes. And I don't want to go to gaol.
