perusing Bike in sainsburys an hour ago.....

they seem to have lifted the threat of tank slappers and replaced it with a question mark over the bike's suitability for two up, long distance touring

Nope, the 'older and wiser brigade' don't give two hoots....we laugh at ourselves and our older bikes and have thicker skins than you toilet pilots.

Did you see the other thread that compared the toilet with the 11's and said it made them look and sound like asthmatic cement mixers? (or similar, I can't remember now)

All the 11xx owners agreed

Try saying anything even the remotest bit ambivalent about the Toilet, and you lot get all uptight and start taking it oh so seriously

it was sainsburys, honest.

they have a massive test of the GS in the mag this month covering any aspect of the bikes use they could think of. the bike seemed to come out of them all very, very well, except for the pillion test.

i didn't read it, just skimmed it, but i think it was mainly a comfort issue "arse ache after 100 miles".
it was at that point that i thought i'd never get a n WC purchase past the CFO and replaced the magazine

My two previous 1200GSs were superb two up tourers. I confidently expect my new toilet to at least match them.

BUT, I tour for pleasure in the milder months of May to September out of consideration to my wife who I am eternally grateful to for putting up with my hobby to enjoy some holidays together.

The Bike article is completely devoid of ANY consideration towards the pillion on the part of the rider. "What an arse" was my thought on reading the account.

Why would you undertake such a trip and expect to achieve any pleasure from it at that time of year? If you wanted to cover huge mileage day after day in all weathers there are any number of other tourers that would be more obvious candidates.

The GS is a brilliant all-rounder but it isn't supernatural.
