We can have our own "I've mounted a small box" club :thumb2

William Fanum Esq was right about mixing plastic and metal...so dumped the plastic until the Yorkshire Rally:D

Kenny,
Sorry mate but it's got to be said. That's got to be the worst looking exhaust I've ever seen on a bike :comfort What makes it worse is that your clearly proud of it and have been polishing it :D

Tell me who sold it to you and I'll go round and have a word.

You have got to get one of these - then you can repaint everything so that it "lines up" or polish it down

Great fun.........courtesy of Valker, arrived this morning and I've already measured everything in sight……...it is surprising how paint thickness has changed over the past 15 to 20 years, (well I suppose that it is not surprising!)............will go back to France with me..great discussion subject around the barbecue.....I'll have them all out there testing their paint thickness

Now where will the Mod move this thread to?

Havn't a clue what you are on about, will it camouflage my silencers ? :D

That exhaust system is (great!), I've got one

Panniers_10.jpg

I interested in introducing a new BMW Airhead standard, only for my internal consumption of course......that of the measurement of the paint thickness........a kind of BMW Airhead paint thickness standard..........so that when I view any BMs I can take my, (new ex Valker), paint thickness gauge with me and measure the paint. If it deviates from the, (a?), norm, then discuss it with the owner........i.e. and e.g. your R90S has a paint thickness of 360 micron on the tank.........normally I would expect to see a reading of 290 micro...
I am just getting into this so my example my not be "true to life" as far as the numbers a re concerned....I need to play around a little more
Maybe I could then delve into BMWs factory records and identify the painter by the micron thickness of his work............just a long shot but far more interesting than looking at a 1200GS.

Interestingly enough, I measured the paint thickness on a couple of my (oldish), Mercs,.......almost 600 microns.......the Golf sitting next to it is just over 200 and the new Clio is under 200 which a new ish SABB 9 5 at 220........as I said maybe the numbers are a little out but it shows the comparison between new and old cars.............there must be a few paint experts out there who can add to the debate.

Seriously - this gauge is great for spotting any resprayed panels on cars or for deciding how much to cut a panel back to get rid of any marks, scratches or imperfections.

Enjoy your day!
