thought you might be interested...

my only reply to that is...each to his or her own! and I am sorry if you have been upset by my comments.....:blast

are discussions not allowed anymore Tim? Differing opinions? who is being dismissive now?

edit: oh...sorry yeh....

'Good art' is entirely subjective, those not 'educated' in some of way of art appreciation often judge art by whether they like it or not, whilst others may need it to challenge their intellect.

Whether this is good art or not is unanswearable but it at least provokes discussion and that may have been the artists intention.

I guess most people here would be more comfortable with a Constable print hanging in their dining room and a poster of Easy Rider in the workshop:D

See that just sounds like the usual arty twaddle that puts me off art... i find it strange how some artists somehow develop these deeper meanings and all this Mumbo Jumbo to make their work sound importaint.... but they are never that "deep" in real life when you meet any of them.
Just is all a bit pretentious to me....
now i don't doubt some artists do have deeper meanings and symbolisations in their work... but i think a lot more are jumping on the "it's deep" bandwagon:D

i do agree that art is very subjective... but it is also full of bull shit too

Good, because the more you try and convince people to agree with your opinion on art the more they'll be alienated:beer:

.... Amys comments changed since I started typing....

I don't think Tims aiming his comments at you personally - I *think* (and I could be wrong here ) that what he is saying is that people often have very deep seated opinions about what is/isn't good art and trying to convince them otherwise only serves to reinforce their opinions. Believe me, I've had to work with enough artists who think they're great when what I see is tripe.... and I'm fairly open minded!

very true very true!

I think the only piece of art that I have really been "into" and had NO idea what it was all about was when we went on a school trip to the Tate (a LONNNGG) time ago and there was an oil painting that was just amazing! It was abstract...but it was the texture of the whole thing that really really got me. I sat and felt the bloody thing (which was probably not at all allowed) but it was just incredible. ANyway ---I had NO idea what it meant and to some it might have been crap ....but I still remember it to this day..so it made an impression.

Yeh....I agree! and YES there are plenty of "artistes" who are up their own .....
the problem with a 2-D forum is that what TIm might have meant was not how I read it.....and vice versa. Each to his own...TOTALLY in life! and I am sorry if I came across as being "pompous" about art! I am just not like that....

me? art? not a clue!

I like the models David particularly the motor cruiser. From that angle it looks a bit like a Riva and I love them. Did it actually get built? Any more pics?

From memory it was a Riva. It was built as a retirement present for some city bigwig. AFAIK he has a real one somewhere.

Well you and Tuned In did misinterpret my post, I didn't realise my comments were as subjective as art so thanks for the compliment;)

So...is that what's meant by 'impressionist' artists then ? :nenau

Just like that...

...or it might have been like that...uhuhuhu

Given that a large number of people on here spend mega bucks blinging up their GS's we're not in a position to critiscise what some people think as being visually stimulating are we?

I don't look for deep meanings in art, if I see something and I like it or it makes me laugh or what ever, then I reckon is good.

A lot of artisits bang on a bout deep meanings to there work because thats what the pretentious twerps who ar egoing to buy it wnat. And artisits like many people need to make a living.

cheers for a link to something which doesn;t have two wheels and enough lights to serve a footy stadium.

beauty and "good art" is in the eye of the beholder dear and perhaps if you go see the stuff then you woulldn't be quite so dismissive.

No need to be like that...I just thought people would be interested in seeing local artists working.

Moo x

Reminds me of the time the "Game for a laugh" show got a bunch of nursery kids to paint some pictures then they put on an art show for the arty fartys, who stood around ooohing and aaahing over this new artists work. One even said saying "yes I can see what he's tried to capture here"
The look on thier faces was priceless when the were introduced to the 3 and 4 year old artists.
