Fuel foil gauge gone again on the GSA, this will be the third one now, getting used to running out of fuel travelling at 60mph +,
Good job I'd just got of the motorway yesterday before I happened.

Can't go to a float gauge as the tank is different :blast

Still within the 2 year replacement parts warranty with BMW then Les ??

Three in as many years is going some even by GS fuel gauge standards. Either the fitter has goofed every time or there is another fault taking out the fuel strips.

No is the short answer. The software for the float type (post Sept 2010) cannot be uploaded to the strip type because it would not allow the frame number other than what was oem equipment for that frame number to be uploaded to the vehicle computer. It would be an inexpensive fix to modify the sw but the tank fittings might differ. I did put the question to a dealer principle but it is BMW Germany who deals with that stuff not BMW UK.

Not really, I went through 3 in 2 years and gave up. So long as it doesn't continually show a low fuel warning I will be leaving it as it is.

I have spoken to BMW about this and I have been told they are working on a fix. They also told me it would be available "in the new year". Guess they didn't say which year :blast

I've had three on my 09 1200GS. The middle one lasted 47 miles! Current one a couple of thousand and counting.

2nd one gone in 12 mnths

BMW sort your sh1t out !

I know it's a free repair but its a pain the arse !

I was doing well for fuel, though I did think it was odd when my range went from 12 miles upto 40 then tumbled to zero --- !

Back to the dealers we trot then !

Ive got extended warrenty so it's free, well its not its effectively £400 !

I've just joined this club with a fuel gauge fault, 0 miles, warning triangle etc.

Snaphappyuk or anyone here who's recently had this can you confirm its a free service to have it replaced by beemer. My warranty ran out about 15 days ago and was going to ask them if they would sneak it in as a good will gesture as seems to be a very common fault.

Thanks in advance

Ha, mine too....

Out just now to fit new battery and zero bars, parked up last weekend with four bars showing. Gave it a shake around and yes there is a fair bit fuel in there but I'll go and fill it just in case....

£30 later and still no bars, Grrr......

Have to say it, in 20+ years of motorcycling the BMW is the only bike I've ever had an issue with, annoying as my nearest dealer is 120 miles away so I can't just pop in, good excuse for a run though I suppose.....

I like the sound of a free repair though, mines just turned three years old btw.

Cheers

Hurry up with the asking nicely at the dealers, mine cost me £200.

Mine now booked in next Wed in Inverness, getting done on my way off to Ireland for the NW and possibly a few :aidan

Service manager says they have done a few and hopefully that'll cure it..!!

Has anybody found it not to be the fuel foil, or is it always the foil that's at fault?

Probably a silly question but.....

Cheers
