Three fuel foils in 2 years

Another one gone FFS !

BMW you really need to sort your selves out, my fuel strip has failed again, one every 12 months, it's under warranty so it wont cost but it's the inconvenience of going back to the dealer and losing the bike for the day.

The zapper fix has worked for me so far...i have only used one tank full of fuel post-fix, but the gauge appears accurate so fingers crossed.

Despite understanding (and agreeing with) the science that there is no risk with zapping in situ I removed the strip before zapping it!

Nice one . Did the range computer come back straight away ? Mine took about 90 km of counting up and down before it settled , its spot on now 3 tank fulls down the line

I reset the fuel consumption thing on the computer and it all seemed to settle down after about 30 miles.:nenau

Well that repair didn't last long...3rd or 4th tank of fuel since the repair this morning and after filling up the gauge dropped to empty as soon as I turned the ignition on!

I don't stick the nozzle right into the tank and stop filling when the fuel reaches the bottom of the black plastic neck (as described in the manual).

Maybe it was just coincidence, but does make me wonder whether filling has something to do with this.

I'll try zapping it again, but I am not very hopeful that it offers a long term solution (but then neither does replacing the fuel strip). I just want shot of the warning!

Fuel

As a fellow sufferer who's about to phone the local stealer how long are they guaranteed for after replacement, (bike not under warranty).

Just a thought, has anybody gone down the small claims court or sale of goods act. I would have thought that there is now enough evidence on forums etc, to prove these foils are not fit for purpose.

Bmw my asre

What a joke!!
Third fuel gauge sender in as many months.
Bmw should sort out their shti and recall these
Bikes. How long is it gonna take to come up with
A solution to these problems. I'm now gonna get in touch
With bmw themselves with a shitty letter.
Whether it will make a diff probably not. Said to service
Manager why don't they go back to float system he said
They have on new wc. Great fckng help when your out of
Fuel 30 miles from home. Grrrrrrr.
What this clicker thing people are talking about on here.
Cheers.

they went back to the float system on the late 2010 twin cams ;)

rather suggests they knew the fuel strip was crap.

Exactly cookie
Why can't they adapt float system to fit all problem years
I know they can ,just cost em too much as if their not earning
It on servicing costs
Robbing bstrds.
Pisses me right off they can get away with it.
Cheers

Apologies if this is a really stupid question, but does this mean that all twin cam GSA's have a float?

no, only the ones made after late 2010. november i think, but can't remember exactly.

if you check this site with your VIN you can work it out what is fitted to your bike.

According to bmw all genuine spares have a full two year warranty BUT if the part was fitted by a BMW dealer under warranty to replace a failed part it does not.

Said it before failures like this would be not be acceptable to BMW car customers.

To certain members of this forum I would say get your heads out of the sand , BMW motorcycles have faults , they are not perfect and it does not mean that as customers we should meekly accept their bad design and pay to fix them
If the fuel foils were a good idea, they would not have gone back to a conventional float arrangement on later bikes, in doing so they are admitting there is a fault so why should they not pay for the fix.

Could now be worth buying a new strip seeing as the GS-911 can calibrate it, if it fails BMW can give me another, simple :D
