Having just come back from a great trip around northern France with my Garmin 2610 which navigated fantastically well, I was wondering if anyone has had experience of a slightly annoying beeping from the unit via an Autocom intercom?
It doesn't happen constantly, but on the odd occation. Once it starts it seems to go on beeping three times in quick succession, for a while. Altho not a real problem, it would be nice to know what it is. Could it be the receiver picking up gps info from the satelites?

I've experienced exactly the same with the same set up. Will be interested in the replies.

I have been having the same problem but the 3 bleeps were sometimes followed by a single bleep causing the route information on the screen to disapear or the screen changing (as if I'd selected one of the buttons).
I noticed this only happens in strong sunlight and it got to the stage where I could almost predict when the bleeps would appear, so to prove a point I taped up the infra red detector and hey presto the 3 bleeps and changing screen problem disappeared.
I spoke to Garmin about this and other problems I have been having and they acknowledged that the 3 bleeps is a known problem and the engineers in US are looking into a fix

Use a digital camera to look at the infra red detector. You'll be able to see the infra red detector flashing on the camera screen, which you can't with the naked eye.

See if the beeps coincide with the infra red detector flashing.

:)

I've had the beeps....I'd put it down to vibrations causing false button/screen presses, especially with the display change... but the sun theory makes sense. Haven't suffered from the beeps since mounting the GPS on the handlebars though; this was only when it was temporarily stuck with a sticky pad to the tank. The GPS is higher up but angled further down so that it's not pointing as high up - perhaps that's why it's not picking up the sun.

Seems weird having a remote control on a GPS though.

three little beeps and Garmin response

I have received a very quick email response from the Garmin customer support team having asked them the beebing question, and here is their reply to my query:

"We believe that these three short beeps may be the result of strong sunlight being received by the infrared sensor and the unit reading it as a signal from the remote control. It has been reported on very few occasions but only appears to happen in strong sunlight. You can test to see if this is the cause by covering the infra red sensor on the right hand side of the
unit with tape on your next ride."

I am assuming that Garmin are not going to start manufacturing highly expensive special Garmin logo'd tape for this purpose! I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but from the threads already posted, it does sound like the source of the problem.

Ditto; I put some easy-to-peel-off insulation tape over the sensor, but that was not opaque enough so I topped it with 2 layers of gaffer tape. The problem immediately vanished, as did the one of the unit putting up a white arrow as-if the screen had been touched.

The "beepbeepbeep" is the noise it makes when the infrared remote control is used; the poor little 2610 gets confused by sunlight. It was getting to be a real nuisance on the run up to Nordkapp.

Confirm that I had the same problem earlier in the summer and returned the unit to Garmin who replaced the faulty infra red sensor FOC
