My master fluid went muddy at only 17000km...flushed and filled with new BMW fluid, but am going to do a proactive replacement of the slave just in case.

1. On the parts fiche, there is no seal listed for this part as there was for the 1150...is the seal integral to the slave now?

2. I can't seem to find anyone that sells the BMW mineral oil online. I assume this stuff is non-flammable and able to ship...any insight on this?

3. I've read in some threads that dealers will sometimes recommend replacement of the master (and line?) as well if the contamination was significant. What says the masses on this view?

Many thanks!

I would say main dealer for the oil and possibly the seal.
The seal was removable on my 06.
The slave is a very simple device if the bore and piston is in good condition and no scoring i would think replacement is OTT

The dealers here in Japan seem reticent to stick and sell fluids of any kind...likely because folks here generally let the dealer do the maintenance. I have to bring a container when I buy teams or FD oil...

I don't know about BMW dealers but my local HD dealer here in Kobe stocks and sells engine oils, mineral and synthetic, gearbox oil, fork oil and hydraulic fluid. Try some local non-franchised shops as I wouldn't think that you had to use BMW fluids. But as the previous poster says, replacing the slave could be OTT.

Its a mineral oil, brake fluid not compatible. The oil used for Citroen suspension and similar is the stuff, or try mountain bike oil for hydraulic disc brakes.

I've heard from others the tip about bicycle hydraulic fluid...I'll have a look at local bike shops...

Agreed replace might be OTT, but I can't afford for the bike to be down more than a few days...and the part costs less than half overseas compared to here...so in this case, I'd feel best to have it on hand in case of the eventuality.

If there are no fluid leaks the cause could also be the clutch master cylinder seal sucking in air or has the reservoir level dropped too low?
