Has anyone repainted or powder coated your throttle bodies? If so what did you use? :nenau

Also, does anyone know what BMW used out of the factory? for a laugh I tried a bit of halfords spray on a a small spot and it doesn't want to stick.

:beerjug:

Hammerite smooth black or silver depending on what colour yours are of course!

edit: looking again I reckon it's a paint. I'm wondering what it is exactly and whether the hammerite will stick better than the halford's own...

might just end up leaving them as is, but would be nice to tidy them up while they're off

Hammerite has always worked well for me, silver a good colour match too. Use an etch primer if painting ally though.

Researching a little bit into painting ally and think I'll leave them until I have better equipment at hand. Thanks for the replies. :thumb2

Duster, I've painted many GS ally parts with Hammerite smooth silver, it sticks like shit to a blanket. I've painted a number of sets of forks, lower fork clamp and tele lever arms and never had a problem with he paint peeling. In a previous life I was in the motor trade and know all about etch priming ally but I've never bothered when using the Hammerite. You will obviously need to give them a good key first,(with the forks and fork clamp I just clean off all the old paint with a wire wheel on a bench grinder and for the smaller areas a small wire brush in a drill). Hope this helps.

A bench grinder on the fork yokes?

You're just kidding us?

If you read the post it says "wire wheel" so yes it is attached to one of my bench grinders and works a treat. It does not damage the ally but gets rid of the old paint and corrosion. So no I'm not kidding. Try it sometime!

Thanks MKP, I might give this a go when I get round to it, I hear wire wool also works well though am tempted to use some acid too just to make sure!

Am thinking about satin black for my bumblebee 1150GSA :augie

Dubster, if you have a bench grinder put a wire wheel on it you won't look back. I don't blame slipperyeel from being either surprised or suspicious of the use of a bench grinder but the wire wheel cleans off the old paint and polishes the surface of the ally well enough to paint hammerite silver straight on, I've done it many times on my own and mates forks etc and the finish is as good as if not better than original. It helps to have a small drill mounted wire brush for the tight corners. The black hammerite smooth is also not too shiny. If you PM me your email address or mobile i can send some photos. Or if your near to where I live pop round and have a look.

Thanks MKP, I was considering using a dremmel with some kind of improvised tool...

I'm a bit far from you I'm afraid. Why not post some pics up here? :beerjug:

Yea. Ok. But two tools I wouldn't normally put together...! No wonder I missed it . I'd have thought it ran too fast? But noted you think it's an excellent combination. I love learning other people's solutions to things

I would post the photos only I a bit of a luddite with these computer thingy's.
