Is there any experienced members in the South Cheshire/North Staffordshire area who has a set of gauges etc. I could use to sync the throttle bodies with on my 1100gs?
I have been trying the manometer all afternoon and only managed to suck the ATF into the engine (sadly on more than one occasion.)

I’m now decided to give up, swallow my pride and as for HELP….
So if you have ½ an hour spare please give me a hand to balance the TB's

You'd better let someone know what they "could" be in for :augie

Are they the one single cable that loops around one throttle body then goes over to the next. The type with three adjusting points :blast

Or the easy one adjusting point each side.

I'm not too sure... its a P reg 1997 1100gs. I haven't ever taken the tank off etc. can I see which type it is without?

Look at the left hand side

On the inside of the throttle body you should see one cable at the front and "possibly" one cable at the back

Only one cable at the front then you have the modern style system one cable to each side

If you see a cable going on at the front and off the rear of the throttle body and disappearing under the air intake you have the early single cable system with 3 adjust points :aidan

Thanks Jaythro
I will have a look in the morning and post the answer, just in-case anybody is able to help me get them balanced. The garage was meant to have done them during the winter service but I think they are out quite a bit and after reading on the forum I decided to have a go, I haven’t had a bmw twin ever before only the F650 so I hadn’t had to balance anything … Once shown I will be fine at doing them if I ever have to.
thanks

Hi Dragontest,
I know that feeling, I've taken mine to the shop for a 'plug in and tune up' every year for the last seven years When I came to put a new gearbox on last year, I noticed that while the L/H butterfly was closed, the R/H one was open about 6mm at the bottom. My mate who was helping had some gauges and set them up; it's never run as smooth! Oh, and I've got the old system (one cable), and it didn't take much doing.

Good luck,

Dave.

Thanks for the response,
That’s the problem I think I have… like you said the garages tune them but it’s not their bike so it rare they are set spot on, and it does appear to make a difference. Hopefully someone will read the post and be able to assist me in the local area, but that said I’m happy to travel outside Cheshire/Staffordshire to their place to balance the throttle bodies.

Just had a look and it is the "moden style system" of a single cable at the front of the throttle body.
