Had the throttle body ticking noise a long time ago. Fitted a ticker killer and all was good.

But have had a noise that I thought was another loose push rod end, (had a bad one before) so checked for this today, can't find a problem in there this time.

So Took it for a 50mile test ride and the noise came back.

Low idle, only when it warms up, sounds like valve train or small end. Runs great at speed and no noise, apart from the normal 126k engine noises.

One hell of a noise, probably only because I am listening for it.

Anyway, at some point I held the cable cam on the throttle body just see if that was where it was coming from, noise greatly reduced. You can even feel the knocking.

Anyone had this and how did you fix it. I am guessing it's so worn in there the spindle kit won't fix it.

Off to Scandinavia in a few weeks so I want to sort it before I go.

The one on motobins seems to have bushes as well, just concerned the body will be damaged with the knocking that is going on.

They are simple to fit and if you follow Dan's instructions you should have no problems. If you get really stuck I have a spare that I rebuilt and tested sitting in a box in my garage.

Second hand low mileage throttle body arrive today. Fitted and balanced, all seems good.

The noise was definitely from the throttle body, the old screwdriver test to the ear and it confirmed it was in the body, one hell of a noise. Still can't believe that's what it is. Test ride tomorrow, hope all ok.

Ok throttle body noise gone, but still a noise once warm.

I Have found the problem. Lower right cam chain guide is broken, there is no upper guide and I believe there should be one.

So my guess is it's in the sump somewhere and if it's broken up then I understand that it can block the oil strainer.

Have read about steptoes fix but not sure if there are other problems going to come along.

Thinking another engine might be needed.

Any thoughts????

OK problem solved.

Engine swapped over yesterday and all seems good. Drained the oil from the old engine and lots of bits in it now, so it was either a rebuild or different engine. Took the easy (ha ha) option of another engine. Will probably strip the old engine and maybe rebuild it.

It amazes me how these things are put together, I don't think they could fit much more in the space under the tank everything is so tight in there. Only just released where the cable box is, what a nightmare, one had popped out and took awhile to it get back in.

Test ride to Sweden next week!!!👌

Under 50,000 miles, just done 150 miles this morning and it's running great.

It even seems to run cooler, much quieter than the old one was even before the problem,

Next week off to Sweden to meet up with friends, then off on a short trip so looks like it was the right way to go
