My 2003 1150gsa (twin spark) 73k miles…

the throttle grip opens and springs closed but I have to grip tightly to open the throttle , seems stiffer than I think it should be - it’s obviously gotten progressively worse over last few years to the point I now notice it .

So Is it a) the grip assembly b) cables c) junction box or a mixture of a b and c!

And if possible without being cheeky… any advice on how to determine which bit(s) are dodgy

Cheers

They mounted it all in a crappy position!!

The splitter is right below the Battery tray and you can slide it out a little YOu may have to pop the Nearside throttle cable off so you can pull it out to the offside as designed

A good cleaning and a lash of a decent penetrating oil / long life lube type stuff usually helps

The fact they snap closed is bizarre! Usually its both ways

Could be a cable starting to split inside against the pull

Needs investigating in case it gets stuck!

I had this on one of my 1150s. I was going to strip it all down an replace the cables but I thought I’d try squirting a good dose of non setting PTFE chain lube up inside the twist grip tube and inside the switch housing where the cable joins the tube. The result was miraculous and it’s now smooth as silk and very free running. Might be worth a go

Throttle Grip

@Northern Monkey. Cant remember the set up on 1150 but I had similar on my 1100. After doing all the usual checks and work I fitted a metal washer between the end weight and grip. This effectively reduced any friction between the grip and switch gear, Cheap fix,

Likely to be

The boden box under the battery tray is likely to be the culprit. All I would say is be careful with what lubricant you use if you strip it down as you don’t want dust and crud sticking to the oil and in turn becoming abrasive. A thorough clean and a touch of silicon lubricant on the pulleys will suffice.
