sorry if im starting another thread that has been probably been covered a few times before......:blast

I want a throttle lock for my 06 12GS, I know NN do them and I have seen these on Jaws motorcycle http://www.jaws-motorcycles.co.uk/goody.htm which looks ok, but is it a case of cheap and nasty given that its a 1/3rd of the price of NN's...

are there any other ones that have been proved ok?

or anyone selling one? :augie

I have a Jaws throttle lock works great .....what’s more its a fine piece of engineering

The Jaws one is a great bit of kit - if you want an easy fix make sure you buy the BMW one not the vista-cruise which is comparatively difficult to fit.

The Jaws one is a great bit of kit -

+1 It even stayed in place when the big bar end bolt with countersunk washer fell out and tinkled on the road one day. Unfortunately I only realised later that I'd lost it.

I have found that the Jaws device needs a wee bit of lube occasionally as mine stuck. Dis-similar metals like to stick together if left to their own devices.

Jaw's device has done me well on 2 trips to the Austrian Alps. Makes riding from Metz to S.Wales in a day, via motorways, less tiresome.

Ive got a kaoko throttle lock (touratech do them) which is fantastic, very easy to use/adjust, not sure it's worth the premium over the jaws one though ( I managed to get mine secondhand) whichever you go for make sure you put plenty of threadlock on the barend bolt when you fit it :thumb2 regards James

Stoopid question coming up but how do these things actually work.....I mean how do you operate them so that you don't end up ploughing into the back of something?

It's a simple friction device. Just twist the device until it provides enough friction against the rubber grip to overcome the return spring. Open the throttle to the desired setting and twist the device a little tighter. You can still open/close the throttle manually or just flick the device so the spring takes over.

I only use mine on fairly clear motorways, such as French toll roads. There's no point trying to use it on twisty roads or the M25. On a 300 mile autoroute journey from Metz to Calais it is excellent as you can take your right hand off the bars to stretch fingers & arm muscles

Bought mine off this very site a couple of years ago, from what I remember it was less than £50, not sure if the bloke who made it is still on here, memory isn't what it was :(, it is good for motorway now the old carpal tunnel is playing up :(

Any chance of a picture of the jaws device fitted?:)

Nothing to it really + I mean that in a nice way. Torx 55 to whip the bar end bolt out. Pull off the black bar end. Pop on new gadget. Lubed up with your favourite gel. As above, plenty thread seal - which I must have forgotten 1st time.

+ if anyone has a spare c/sunk bar end washer I'm still searching for one. Hand guard currently taped in place.

I have Jaws one and it works well. Just be aware when fitting that there are clearance issues with the bar end and the throttle on some 1200s. The clearance can be too small, leading to unexpected throttle lock effect with the grip on hot. My 05 had a thick washer fitted to solve the original problem. With the throttle lock and no washer, the throttle was always on lock. With the thick washer, it would not lock at all. A thin washer bodged to suit was required to make the lock work properly.

It makes a big difference to me to be able to take my right hand off the bars from time to time on motorway runs and it doesn't cost much either.
