thinking of getting one of those throttle -lock thingy's the one that looks like a spanner and was wondering if they would work with grip puppies fitted .

doubt it as the the spanner teeth might tear into the puppies (given that you'll probably need a tighter o ring to make it work). Might work with a small inner cycle tube cut off placed strategically to save the teeth biting the puppies?

I've got a spare one of the ones that go on the end and adjust the friction that way if you're interested?

I use one with grip puppies still fitted, I just roll the grip puppy back on itself to expose the rubber grip beneath.

How does the ring lock work with the handguards in place

It grips the grip and rests against the brake lever bracket or hand guard and stop the throttle from shutting. Rider can push the throttle shut against the slight grip of the lock lever. It works with or without hand guards.
