Was out on the bike on friday and stopped to ring the mrs to let here know I was gonna be a couple of hours late (was having too much fun).
Restarted the bike and carried on my way. Noticed soon after starting that the bike didn't feel right. When holding a steady throttle at lowish revs (3,000) the bike would decelerate like I'd just shut the throttle and then pick up again. I carried on for about 10 miles until I entered the next town. At the first red light I noticed my tickover was around 2,500 revs so I blipped the throttle. This made the revs climb to 4,000 where they stayed until I pulled away. I pulled up in town and turned the ignition off and waited around 10 seconds before switching it back on. Hey presto - bike returned to normal running. On the rest of the journey the bike carried on as normal but the next morning I started the bike and the problem seemed to have returned although not as bad. If the throttle was blipped the revs would climb as normal and then drop to 2,500 before slowly dropping to 1,100.

I remember reading on this site about a similar problem but I have searched and can't find the thread. I recall someone saying that the problem was caused by the throttle position sensor and that if you had the throttle on by even a small amount when you turned on the ignition this would 'confuse' the sensor and I believe the cure is to turn on the ignition and open the throttle fully to the stop twice to recaliberate it. I tried this on Saturday and everything has been fine since (although I'm not sure if this was the correct procedure or not).

Anyone out there who can shed some light on this issue or could it be something more serious that might need dealer attention? My warranty runs out in 6 weeks.
