Im based in Crieff and rather than go through to John Clark which would mean leaving my bike overnight (engines to be cold for valve check) does anyone know of a competent garage or mechanic closer to Crieff/Perth. If you guys arent using a dealer who are you using?

GS1200 2008

Maybe not much help:rolleyes: - but surely your engine will be at the same temperature after 40 miles from Crieff to John Clark or 10 miles say from Crieff to "local" independent:nenau

I do all my own servicing, so not a problem for me, but I'm sure if you deliver your bike to the dealers first thing in the morning and they leave it parked outside for an hour (MAX) the engine would be fine for a valve check - must happen at a dealers every day of the week?

They'll probably be able to give you a demo bike to amuse yourself for a couple of hours as well - if you ask when booking:thumb.

Cheers..................Grizzly:beerjug:

Fair point, the difficulty is Dundee is a good hour +, if there was someone nearer then the wife could zip by and collect me. Its as much the bugger factor as anything else.

Done mine myself today but didn't actually have to do anything as the end float and valves were all spot on, exactly as they were 1 year and almost 10k miles ago when last checked :D
I'd been having a problem with idle when stopping at junctions but a motronic re-set today has totally cured that and the TBs just needed a little tweak at idle using Twinmax gauges, all lovely and smooth again.
I know that it doesn't answer your question but it's quite satisfying doing stuff like this yourself :thumb

You will probably find that they won't be much out if anything but if your mirrors vibrate a lot at idle then it's going to need a little tune up, not a scientific approach but it gives you an idea...

04' 1150gsa with 44k miles, older and more agricultural but still similar

well....is there anyone who lives close to Crieff that knows there way round a GS that can do my sync and valve check, happy to pay! I dont have the time to get through to Dundee, hang about and double back later for collection if necessary.

There must be someone down your way who would be willing to share some knowledge and time although it is a bit of a responsibility fiddling with someone else's bike...unless you 'really' know what your doing!

Hope you get sorted out.
