Throw over panniers on 650gs

Hi, I'm sure I saw somthing along these lines recently. But I'm blowed if I can find it.

We're heading off to the Llangollen meet next month, and I'm wondering if anyone has tried using the current type of cordura throw over panniers 'bearing in mind the high level exhausts' Should I be looking at making some kind of frame to keep them off the pipes or is it a case of the panniers don't get close enough to get damaged anyway?

If I'll be needing to make up somthing, then all suggestions welcome and any photos would be usful.

Throw over panniers

Yes, it can be done with a little work. I've got givi pannier frames (pl188) & Gearsack cordura bags. The bags have alloy plates on them (use bag as template) then rivet the bag & plate together. I made up two sets of brackets to hang them on the frames. Doesn't take that long to do & cost was approx about £140. I'll post photos tomorrow, and if you need any more info, let me know. Neil.

Throw Over Panniers

Managed to suss out adding pics!

2 sheets aluminium (2mm thick), cut to size using bag as template. Plastic on the inside riveted together. Size up against frames, add some brackets. On frames I used bicycle inner tubes with cable ties to stop metal/metal. Cheers Neil.

They do look good but I was hoping for a less permanent solution. If one goes to the lengths of fitting pannier brackets to the bike you may as well fit permanent panniers. The versitility of a true throw over is what I am looking for . Anyone managed to find a solution?

I had the same problem with my 650. Do you carry a pillion? If not, then the easiest luggage solution is a huge (50-60L) stuffa bag bungeed to the rear seat/rack.
