As a new user i was suprised to see how much GS bashing was going on. Here is my opinion.
Bought my first R1200GS in 2004 yes the one with the problems and was instantly impressed with the bike, I to had the odd problem ie fuel pump housing and water you know what I mean, and coating coming of front wheel.
Which brings me onto another point,which other bike dealer offers service of such quality where a loan bike is delivered, bike picked up,bike repaired extremely quickly, even had a 5 series car whilst driveshaft seal being
replaced all without any whining or excuses whatsoever.
This compared to when suspension shat itself on my HondaVFR (yes they brake also) 3 days before Europe tour. No pick up,no loan bike,no holiday.
Anyway after 18000 miles decided to replace GS with the only bike that came anywhere near my old one.A brand new 2006 R1200GS, first time i have wanted to buy the same bike again.Already up to 8000 miles, 2 Europe trips,more planned and countless so called superior bikes embarressed.
Lets here it for the best everyday do anything alrounder there is.

Bought my '05 bike with 3k on the clock and been all over Europe on it, two up, without any problems or concerns. Most comfortable bike I have owned and will keep up with mates on 'faster stuff' in the dales and ahead of them on bumpy surfaces. It still uses oil, but I know about that. The screen could be better at higher speeds, but when it gets uncomfortable I know I risk points on my licence. Don't know what I would replace it with.

The vast majority of us 1200 riders have had mostly trouble free, enjoyable and satisfying ownership.

Oh How I Love My GS



Born July 2005, We have been together ever since - inseperable.
Thousands of miles across Europe and up and down dales of the UK or just the daily commute.
She never gives me any trouble.

This is my eigth BMW over a 30 year period -it is just over two years old, used every day except when it is snowing. No problems and it is far better than any of the 7 previous models, including the 1150GS. (But to be fair, they have ALL been pretty good - I may have been still riding the (original) R100RS if I could still fold into the right shape!
