Wednesday morning on the way to work through Newbury my ABS light came on and the speedo stopped working (an intermittant fault the bikes had for a while) anyway decided to pop to SPC whilst the fault was current, I was seen straight away by Steve in the workshop, he found a fault using the GT1, ordered the parts required, loaned me an R1200ST (nice engine by the way) for two days, my GS was ready as promised on Thursday.

Top service!

 Good to see that they are getting it right Shep. I just wish that they'd get it this right more often...

Yes, I agree, but seeing as I posted a few critisisms in the past, I felt it was only fair to compliment when I felt it was called for.

There's no taste to nothing! As me dad would say.

Shep,

I had a similar intermittent fault with the ABS light coming on and the speedo would seem to drop from the current speed to zero then back again at intermittent intervals. I had the rear ABS wheel sensor replaced twice with the intermittent problem recurring after about 1000miles! Since then I complained to BMW Headquarters in Bracknell and insisted that they change all the ABS components as they didn't know where exactly the problem was!
I ended of with the complete wiring loom, all ABS sensors and the ABS control unit all being replaced. I have now done 5000miles since having this done and it has been OK.

Hi ianm00

Mine was much the same, at odd times the ABS light came on, the speedo stopped working, when I stopped the bike, switched off the ign. Then restarted again the fault dissapeared, when it was plugged into the GT1 later the fault was reported as being resolved.

This time I kept the fault current by not restarting the bike to reset the system, this time the GT1 recognised the fault to be in the central ABS unit.

I had decided to run the bike untill the parts were available (my only transport) when I left the shop I got about a mile away, went to apply the brakes, the very moment the micro switch was operated, the front wheel locked for a split second then the fail to safe system operated and just residual braking remained. I returned to the shop and left it there.

It may have been daft for me to leave the shop on the bike in the first place, but the fault has been current for so long now, I had just got used to resetting then resuming my journey unaffected.

I hope all is fixed now with the brakes, its a great bike, let down by unstable, unrequired, technology.

How about an R1200 Expedition, simple brakes, carburetors, simple electronic ignition, big fuel tank, top filling panniers, large, frame mounted bash plate, redesigned brake pedal (routed over the footrest, to protect the brake light switch and increase ground clearance) cable clutch, allen head stainless fixings everywhere. Any more ideas?

Regards Shep

Had a bit of a "senior moment" when tinkering today and needed a bit of advice. So I thought I'd chance my arm and see if one of the guys in the SPC workshop would give me a bit of advice. When I called I was told they would get someone to call back soon.

Well, they did call back in about 5 minutes... Steve called and sorted me out and was very helpful :thumb

Makes a nice change when that happens :)
