Thunderbird 3.0.3

Hi folks
Have just updated to Thunderbird 3.0.3 mail client. All new email is immediately marked as read when looking at Inbox after starting Thunderbird. Any ideas what's going on? On Tools-Options-Reading and Display, I have unchecked "Automatically mark messages as read". I prefer to see a message as read when I have err... read it.
Any pointers gratefully received. Cheers
